Mystery Switch On Dash Need Help Identifying

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just bought my APR stage 3 S4 and there is a red on/off switch on the dash. It has two wires coming out of the back and they are spliced to switches under the dash. It looks like one goes to the gas switch and the other the brake switch. Any thoughts? When you look at the pics it is the light green wire and I am looking up from under the dash.

Just kidding. I'm thinking its a clutch switch bypass. Will the car start with the switch in either position without pressing the clutch pedal?

Just checked and no matter which position the switch is in, the car still requires the clutch to be pressed to start.

Is just hook a volt meter to it and check to see if power goes to it. If power goes to it, pull fuses until it goes out. That could give you a better idea of what it controls.

If there's a switch to deactivate the brake lights the previous owner was a fucking goon. I respect that.

Looks like it either interrupts or completes the circuit between the clutch position switch and the brake switch. Is that car originally a manual or did someone swap it from Auto?
Either way that switch can only manipulate the clutch position signal from what it looks like. The clutch-interlock (safety) switch is up higher above the brake pedal. Doesn't look like they tapped that; so...? Cruise control disengage or some kind of other thing..?

I am clueless on why they would do that? It is an APR setup so the programs are controlled through the cruise control stock. I don't think that has anything to do with it. I will try the brake light idea tomorrow.

Has nothing to do with the brake lights? I am now clueless? I am taking it in to Auto Union Tuning next week. Maybe they can figure it out..

how many leads are coming off the dash switch? The two green ones, and then are there any other terminals? Wondering if it was maybe for a 2-Step module at one time and the switch was to activate/connect the signal wires to toggle it on and off??

    Memphis, TN for now!

I think it is tune related. Some guys like to heel toe for shifts and maybe this helps the tune deal with that? A lot of tunes will keep the engine from revving if the brakes are applied?

Could also be some kind of electric brake for trailers?

Ok, spoke with the guys that built the car at 2Bennett and they said that it was for trail braking on the track. It is just for show now and does not do anything anymore. The APR software has eliminated the need for it.

Did they say what exactly it did? I'm just curious why you'd need a switch to trail brake

Pressing the BRAKE and throttle at the same time will tell the ecu that the rake signal is more important and will close the throttle. Interrupt the brake signal and voila! Google Unintended acceleration...
