Dealer says a software update is required to get rid of my CEL

    Hey all,

My CEL came on as I was taking my A7 in for service. They called me today and said it needs a software update, something related to the catalytic converter. Apparently it's $200 for the update, has anyone heard of this?

    Thanks,
    Joel

I've not heard of this, but if it is related to emissions equipment, it should be covered under a longer warranty than the standard 4 yr / 50000 mile warranty.

I have not heard of a SW update for the ECM that is related to the catalytic converter. Smells fishy!!! As Mjfloyd1 indicated, if there is some kind of update to correct something that is part of the cars emissions system, than it is covered under a separate emissions warranty.

Ask for the details of the update before you proceed.. there are plenty of us here that can confirm the validity with our dealer service relationships.

Got the car back yesterday, here is what it says

I asked the SA for more info and he said the software update is only to get rid of the CEL and it's not a real issue.

Lol, i hope you didnt pay for that then. Nice explanation from them. If you needed an emission related update that should be provided free of charge.

That's crazy. That almost worth a call to Audi corporate to (a) confirm you shouldn't have to pay for it period; and (b) have someone investigate whether these clowns have been fleecing people for these "updates" all this time. That smells of a class action waiting to happen.
