New owner 2010 S5 - What do I need to know?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey everyone! New to the forum. I followed it closely when I had an A4, but was recently offered the opportunity to get into an 2010 S5 with 38,000 miles. So far it's been great. Especially the sound of that V8! But I like to keep my cars in pristine condition. This one itself has a couple issues. Especially the passenger window squealing when I lower it. I found a thread on it and it seems like it's a common issue with an easy fix that I'll get on.

But what should I look out for in the future? Brakes, Spark Plugs (coil packs?) Timing belt maintenance? Any other standard maintenance I'm overlooking? Air filters, fuel filters? Any suggestions would be great or anything you suggest I should get to make the car even better (if possible :p). Happy to be apart of the community.

    Thanks!

Carbon Cleaning the engine is necessary every now and again.

I'm about less than a month away from picking up a 2013 RS5. Definitely also interested in knowing what to look for!

How does one do that? Can I just drive really hard a day or two and burn the carbon out?

carbon cleans involves removing the intake and literately scraping the build up out.. or at least thats what I have read.

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...read-for-A5-S5

on a side note, in other vehicles there has been the "steam clean" tutorials. While I am not going to say this works for the audi platform and I am NOT SAYING to do this but rather it might be an option. This involves disconnecting a vacuum line and placing it in a water battle filled with deinionised/distilled water and running the engine and sucking up the water or spraying directly into the intake. again if you choose this route I am not responsible for any complications as I have not done this with any of my vehicles and definitely have not done this on an audi platform.

Hah, no, that's now how you do a carbon clean. I'm not personally certain of the exact process, but if you search for "carbon clean" on this forum I'm sure you'll find details on it. The 4.2 FSI is pretty well plagued with carbon buildup that robs horsepower.

I've had my 09 for few months now - also got it with 38K miles but been driving it a lot.
Recently started smelling coolant after hard drives so i'm taking it to the dealer Wednesday, it doesn't overheat and i don't see any leaks. So who knows.
But other than that it no issues at all besides my right foot getting heavier and wallet getting lighter since i installed AWE track.

Possibly a hairline crack in the plastic coolant res tank. First and easy check. How's your coolant level do you have to add any at any point?

Quite common on all Audis oddly lol. Hasn't happened to me yet on my 2010, but has on my friends 2008 S5.

Side note: How's the AWE track for DD driving? I was between the Track & touring. My fiancé sometimes drives the car, but mainly I didn't want it to be STUPID loud. I've had those days with my V8 5.0 Foxbody Mustang days when I was 18. Off-road H-pipe, dumps after the mufflers lol. I just want something that's going to be loud when I need it, but still have that loud grumble down low. I don't want to go touring & regret it later down the road. I'll just be running the cat back stock down pipes.

I've had my 2010 since last July, loving every minute of it. Can't wait until I put a AWE cat back exhaust on in June to really let that V8 sing & breathe as it should.

I am at 70k with my 2010, i don't know if it has ever been carbon cleaned or not. I plan to do it possibly within the year give or take. Car idles fun, power seems there, no start up hesitation.

I DID get a check engine just before i left for Florida in March, which eventually went away by itself after a day or two. Since march it has only popped on again once. P2006/p2007 which is something with the manifold flat getting stuck closed or open once and a while i believe. For search its either a vacuum line that has came disconnected around the back of the manifold, or the flap itself or the arms that open and close it needs to be re-aligned. I haven't had a chance to mess with it yet. Light goes away by itself after a day if it even pops on at all. Car drives exactly how when i picked it up last July.

I did notice it below the min mark yesterday, so i added some yesterday for the first time. I will check it out, that would save me the hassle of dealing with the dealer if thats the case.
I just can't stand that smell, i used to have DSMs before and that smell gives me nightmares.

It was pretty loud when it was new but it has gotten quieter. Cold morning starts... its loud but no won't be as loud as mustang.
Cruising on highway speeds with windows rolled up you barely hear it... I think you should get the track just don't get the non-res downpipes .. that makes it stupid loud.
For me the track by itself is perfect, has a nice growl low and loud enough when you punch it.

I would give it a check for sure. Happened to my friends recently and he also experienced the smell. He does have to top off sometimes.

As for the exhaust, I wouldn't get the non res downpipes, i am getting too old for STUPID loud lol. Plus my fiance sometimes drives it. I think the Track with the stock down pipes is what i am looking for. I like to fly under the radar sometimes if i can, not drawing any extra attention if me and the fiance come back from dinner & its late at night. I was just afraid if i got the Touring i would have wanted JUST a bit more. I don't bounce the car in the high RPM's either around town, so hopefully it can be a "tad tame" when i need it. Its just too quiet for me anymore after a year, i hear more motor than exhaust.

It was actually on another forum but there were a few:

This was the first thread I found. It noted a TSB from Audi that I could not locate. But this thread lead to another thread here, that said Audi replaced two window regulators, of which I've been looking around the Internet for to install. Upon closer inspection of my vehicle, I did notice the window is literally being scratched by whatever is inside. Very annoying, but a minor inconvenience.

I've also read that some dealerships will just lube the track and send you on your way. This is a quick fix and won't last long. Which is obvious in the way the window is literally being cut. Other dealerships found stone or sand in the track creating the scratches. Others have noted that a new regulator needs to be installed and a metal tab needs to be pulled back.

If anyone knows where to find the TSB for this, that would be great!
