    Possible transmission failure 2016 B8.5 A4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Well all, in the 1800 miles I've had my new A4, it's been into the shop to have a missing strut bolt from the factory installed, front bumper needed an entire respray due to missing paint from the factory and now the car is in the shop for the second time for what may be a failing transmission.

When I put the car into reverse, it takes 2.5-3 seconds and the transmission will then clunk into gear. If I'm on the slightest of inclines, the car will actually roll forward until the gear engages. Will find out the diagnosis today or tomorrow but I've opened a case with AOA, as I'm seeking to have the car replaced.

I'll keep you all posted on my efforts but I couldn't be more disappointed in my Audi ownership experience thus far. As it stands, the biggest mistake of a car purchase I've ever made. Hoping Audi stands by their product and puts me in a new, problem free vehicle. Wish me luck all!!!

Do you have a CVT transmission? Seems your car was built on Friday before a holiday.

8 speed Tip transmission. I think it's a spare parts car honestly. I'm so frustrated as the car has been in the shop more than my garage. This is my 4th service visit in 7 weeks...13 total days so far by my estimate.

I was gonna say, Lemon that thing. For all your trouble, I would hope think they'd just outright swap you one.

My car just had this same transmission problem happen yesterday. I'm hoping it was an isolated incident. Put the car into reverse in a parking lot and the gear didn't take. Just kept rolling forward and was revving like it was in neutral. 2014 Allroad, 8-Speed. Never happened before and hasn't happened again yet. Gave me a bad feeling though.

Lemon Law is 30 days or 3 fixes in my state. The dealership GM is supportive of replacing the car but ultimately it is up to Audi Corporate. My dealership has no 16's left so I'm hopeful they will place me in a B9 instead. I had the Season of Audi package on my car so it's more rare than your standard 2016 S-Line, so I'd really only be interested in that exact car or a 17. Guess we will see what happens once they diagnose the car but I don't expect it is a minor issue.

That sucks about your car, but I would NEVER buy the first model year of a new Audi design. Try to get them to replace your car with a B8.5 S4 if they have any sitting on the lot.

They have zero 16 A4's or S4's on the lot. I hear what you are saying about the first model year though. I'm not sure Audi will even approve it so no reason to get excited about a replacement until I get the green light. All I know is I do NOT want my car back ever. That thing is cursed.

It might be overkill, but heck, it's your car! Get an attorney involved. No one should have to go through what you've gone through when buying a brand new car.

If they decide to replace it they can do so from any dealer in the US therefore the inventory at your dealer should be relevant. Let's just say I know someone familiar with the process. Oh and most laws require it be back for repairs for the exact same issue 3 or more times...

If the car is on an incline and starts to roll forward it will not engage the transmission in order to prevent damage, especially if you're pressing the gas pedal at the same time. The 8 speed zf tip transmission is very solid which is why it is the chosen transmission for the new B9 S4.

Yes I'm familiar with the lemon laws in my state however I'm looking at this as more of a goodwill replacement from Audi as there should not be all of these issues within the first weeks of ownership. I'm not trying to get over on Audi or the dealer, just want a functional car that is optioned the same as my current vehicle, nothing more, nothing less.

    Hi all,

I may be mistaken, But the b9 is the second year as it was introduced in Europe last year/ this year? That said, second year may not be good either.

    Luck

My SA emailed me this evening and said the tech was unable to reproduce the issue and no Vag codes. Yet I reproduced it twice for the SA when I dropped the car off and she said oh that's not normal. Also the opened a TAC. Why would you open a TAC if it's 'normal' behavior. I am at my wits end with this freaking car!!!

No man, no. Quattro is an absolute must-have - over any and everything else.

So much that I will never own a FWD car again.

So just heard from the dealer and the transmission is getting replaced on my car after 1800 miles. I'm working with dealer and AOA and am hopeful the car gets replaced. It's been nothing but problems since the day I picked it up. I am in a B9 loaner as well and it's an amazing car. Beats the previous generation hands down across the board.

I hope you have better luck than I did with my B6 lemon. Had transmission replaced 3rd week of ownership, sunroof would open/close on its own, missing badges on delivery and aoa would not replace it. After consulting a lawyer, he said not much I could do since the same problems werent coming up and it seemed to be all new problems. After 10k miles, I traded the car in. Good luck.

Did they inspect the rest of the suspension, sub frame, etc? Any such problem should be very obvious to you driving it, but it can't hurt.
Also, ask to have them run an "actual vs specified" on all of your electronic systems and give you a full diagnostic print hard copy to keep.

Drive the B9 yourself and tell me I'm wrong. Engine, transmission and tech trump the B8.5 in every way. I will say I prefer the rear of the previous gen A, especially the rear bumper and diffuser, but the driving dynamics of the new car are hard to argue with. While my car was not performing the way it should have, I have driven functional B8.5s numerous times and have previously owned an 11 and 13 A5, so I do have some experience in driving Audi vehicles, and I will say that I've had more fun driving the B9 in the past 3 days than any of the Audis I've owned.

I have driven the B9, I wasn't a fan. Yes the Tech is cool and all but I still prefer the B8.5. I also hate the styling.

Have you heard back yet whether they are willing to replace the whole car, or just the tranny? This may be putting the cart before the proverbially horse, but if they came back and said "We'll swap for a B9, if you cover the sticker differential" would you? I don't care to know what you paid for the car, but I do assume that you got a decent deal considering you bought the B8.5 so close to the B9's consumer debut, so my question is whether or not you would be inclined to pay more to get a new car over a fixed car?

I haven't heard a definitive answer yet, but the GM at the dealer is working with Audi regional now on my case. I would definitely take the B9 over my fixed car or a replacement B8.5. My car is actually fixed with a new transmission and sitting at the dealership. The GM wants me to stay in the loaner until a final decision is made but as far as I'm concerned I don't want to drive my car ever again. I'll keep you all posted on the final decision. My dealership has been amazing to work with though, so that has made a very frustrating experience much better.

To each their own I suppose. I don't think the exterior looks vastly different, but the tech and performance definitely are improvements over the previous gen.
