Lowering Springs for a B7 Quattro Avant -Ride Quality-

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi guys,
Im about to pull the trigger on some Springs for my Non-SLine B7 Quattro Avant. It looks like 4x4 at the moment and even my wife has signed off on the purchase. I already have coilovers on my Garage Queen E82 BMW and do not want to invest that kinda $$ in the Audi.

I plan on keeping the OEM shocks for now and would like to retain the smooth ride I have now. So, not interested in the super stiff springs.

Of the following, which would have the softest spring rate and most comfortable ride?
    1. H&R Sport
    2. Eibach Pro Kit
    3. NeuSpeed Sport Lowering
    4. ??

Please keep in mind that this is my family car, so not looking to improve performance of the vehicle. I have my back-braking E82 for that

    Thanks as always!

Didn't try all the brand, but this car is already comfy enough, in comparison in the average car on the road.

I'm on H&R and s-line shocks, right now. Did I saw a difference over the stock s-line ? Not really. The back didn't really drop (.3 inch maybe) , and the front drop about 1.x''.
    Springs Stiffness seems similar.

Still super comfy, and this is the family car as well. Almost as the maxima that I owned, and back in the days, those car were condidered as super soft rides.

Note : I had eibach, they last 5-6 years, then they cut in half. H&R seems way stronger. Got them on essex distribution . ca.

Getting H&R on non-sline shock, I believe it will be like most of the stock shock on a static drop : It will leak and wear way faster than with OEM springs.

If you can't find the answer there, I can give you a ride on the next meet.

Check out the Revmotoring springs. $150 with the audizine discount and the ride is very much like stock.

Non s line shocks usually don't hold up well to lowering springs

Thanks for the answers guys. Very helpful.

I realize that the shocks wont last too long on lower springs. But they are OEM shocks with 185,000 KM on them, so I dont expect them to last much longer anyways.

Wow those are a great price.

    Are they reliable/durable?

Shock for A4 B7 on rockauto .com are cheap. CAD $ is pretty competitive.

H&R are in CAD, and no customs to pay from essex, 1tax, shipping cheap (free?) since they are in canada.

    Merci!
I typically order from US vendors with Free shipping and have the items delivered to freeportforwarding.com. I then drive down and pay only taxes at the border. I've never paid duty for car parts.

it's really a low price indeed.

One thing to look: do they resist to salt/calcium/cold/pot holes and rust? This is my question since the OEM springs broke @70 000km 5years, and my previous eibach broke @ 90 000km 5-6years.
Can't tell yet on h&r, I got them 9 months ago.

OP, be aware, the car is not even from front to rear, so if the seller says : even drop all around, the car won't get a even wheel/fender gap.
Even if the car is leveled, does not like so.

@spennyb7, does you car got the same front/rear gap? Mine doesn"t with the h&r

The modest drop and ride quality on the Revmotoring springs were just what I was looking for on my Avant. I did put Bilstein sport shocks in, if you are taking the time to change the springs it it would be hard not to do the shocks at the same time. The front of my Avant is at 25.25" and the rear at 25". I was looking for the rear to be slightly higher but it is pretty close to even. I believe a lot of spring kits have the rear even lower than that compared to the front from what I have read. I have only had them in for three weeks so who knows how they will hold up in the long run. My stock springs were on for 130,000 miles in NE weather and they were fine.

Sounds like the OEM shocks are about ready to go already. Why not get some ST coils and replace the springs and shocks and have a nice 5 year warranty on the shocks. I have my STs on my B7A4 Avant set very high and they are about the sale as the OEM Sport suspension. Plus for the month of April ST is also doing a $100 mail in rebate as well. Much cheaper than buying springs and then buying shocks.

Agreed. I mulled the idea of getting springs for my avant, but ultimately went with STs and couldn't be happier. If you're not happy with the ride height after you install springs, too bad. Theres not a ton you can do about it. Adjustability and peace of mind outweighs saving some money in the short term (in my opinion)

For reference, my B7 Avant on H&R Sport springs and OEM Sport shocks with B5 caps (drops front additional 1/2")

Rides a bit stiffer than OEM Sport and I rub in the back on big bumps, but likely because I'm running 245/35/19's
