Exclamation PSA: Audi Stereo Transport Mode

    PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

Before shipping any Audi stereo/radio, please, for the love of God, place the unit into transport mode. I have already lost out on two deals (symphony 2+ and now RNS-E) because the units arrived malfunctioning, specifically the disc drives.

Transport mode can be activated and de-activated without any additional software or equipment (from my understanding) and is a safeguard to ensure the unit arrives to its destination safely and in working condition as it did when it left your hands.

Again, this is to protect the seller from having to issue a refund and lose money on shipping, to protect the buyer from having to wait for refund and pay for return shipping, and to protect the head units themselves.

I will update this thread as I find the various ways to enable and disable transport mode for each type of unit.

Good advice! I took my Symphony unit out to install a RNS-E knock off. I put the old radio in a box. Box was moved a couple of time. Had problem with RNS-E knockoff and had to return it. Pulled the old Symphony out of box, reinstalled it, and the CD was dead. Wish I had put it into transport mode as soon as I took it out.

by the way. just because it says service or youre getting a CD error, doesnt mean the head unit is dead. i shipped this same unit out (bought and sold without doing more than plugging in harness because going another route) and it was "DOA" to the buyer. got the radio back, read a few DIYs, removed the top cover (2 screws), moved the little thing that "locks" the laser during transport mode, fiddled around with inserting cds and such and no errors. now i have to return these cds to my neighbor because i only owned one lol.

so if you have time and patience you may be able to save a unit that would other wise get dumped.

only reason i even bothered is because i bought the radio months ago, so attempting to get a refund at this point wasnt going to be worth the headache. so this is mainly for people who dont have the option of returning the unit. enjoy guys! the unit is great upgrade cosmetically and sound quality wise. getting rid of the tape deck alone is worth it lol.

may be up for sale again if i decide to keep this headache of a car.
