    2014 Mustang V6 vs. 2013 Audi A4 Quattro - NEED SOME ADVICE

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey Everyone! My name is Darryn and I'm brand new to the forums here and will potentially be joining the "Audi Community" soon but need some advice/opinions from you guys!

    I currently drive a 2014 Mustang V6 and am considering getting into a 2013 CPO A4.

Here's the specs of the car:
2013 Audi A4 Premium Quattro in White w/ Black Interior
    26k miles
    Certified Pre-Owned

Here's the specs on the deal:
    Asking Price: $25,000
    Price Negotiated: $23,516
    Amt Owed on Trade: $19,780
    Trade Value: $15,000
    Down Payment $6,000

So knowing that my questions are:

    1) With the knowledge that you guys have, would you say that is a good price for the car?

    2) Long-term, how do Audi's hold up? I've owned 3 VWs and own a 2015 Passat now in addition to my Mustang and have had great luck with all of them so I'm assuming the same will go for Audi.

    3) How's the depreciation on A4s in your experiences?
    --

I drove the car and really loved it but I guess more importantly I want to make sure I'm making a sound financial decision.. $6k out of pocket is a decent chunk so I'm trying my best to value side-by-side keeping the Mustang vs. trading for the A4.. While of course also valuing the fun factor of the A4.

    Thanks for your help guys!

$700 to swap but here's the thread. We try and help our own around here so if you did get it and needed pointers that may not be in the thread just ask on the already existing thread.

Awesome man, thanks for the link! Will definitely me be useful if I buy this one. Any thoughts on the one I'm looking at and it's pricing?

Most of us on here that didn't get Nav, sports seats and S-Line package regret not getting it. For the price of that car you could get it loaded out and be very happy with your purchase for about the same price.

Really? This is the best price I've seen so far.. You think I could get a CPO B8.5 Quattro with all of that and similarly low miles for around this price? If that's the case I'll definitely hold off and keep looking.. Nav I'll never use but the sports sears and s-line package would be nice.

For a base model, it's a little over priced to me. Checkout my build thread on page 2 and 8, I did a retrofit with nav and a few other things. It's a big difference with no nav setup to nav setup.

Going to check out your build thread right now, thanks! They're listed at $25k and i've negotiated down to $23,516 so far.. What would you consider a fair purchase price?

That might be a question for the Buyers Thread. I've had mine for 6 years now and couldn't help you on that one.

the good news is, by moving from a Mustang to an A4, you'll no longer be obligated to crash into pedestrians on the way out of C&C.

Well if I buy it I plan to IMMEDIATELY do the following:

    - RS4 Grille Conversion
    - Black out all emblems
    - Black vinyl wrap the roof
    - Black vinyl wrap the side mirror covers
    - Black wheels
    and maybe..
    - LED Headlight Conversion (if I can find a way to be all in around $1k)

So I already want to mod the hell out of it and I don't even own it yet lol!

Don't get a base model A4. You'll spend all of your fun mod money and time on parts just to make it what you should have bought in the first place.

Premium Plus and Sport package will give you a huge head start in looks and handling.

Maybe it's because I live in South FL and everything is a rip off, but i'm not finding ANYTHING that is CPO, Low miles and quattro that is around this price, never mind a Premium+.. I'm hardly finding any quattros in general.

You might want to think outside the box and look out of state and just wait for one, they do pop up. The car you're looking at isn't worth it, at all!

My two cents... the price is a bit high for what you're getting. $22k would be the most I'd offer. The thing that concerns me the most if that almost $4800 of your down payment is chewed up covering the negative equity in your trade. I'd look around a little longer until you're no longer upside down on the Mustang, or try a private sale.

Thanks for your input! Yeah most of my down payment is getting chewed up by the Mustang unfortunately but that negative equity isn't going anywhere.. I guess that's what I get for buying brand new.

Making sure this purchase is sound financially is most important to me. I want to get a solid price for a solid car that won't depreciate too much in the ±2-3 years I plan to hold onto it.

then don't buy the one you linked -- find one with the sports package and sline -- it will be more desirable when you want to sell it later

also, you should probably sell the Mustang private party as you might be able to reduce the negative equity there

That car is as base model as it gets. Don't waste your time & money with headlight conversion, get the ones you want in the first place. Expand your search, I live in the burbs outside of Chicago and got mine from a dealer in New Jersey.

Thanks for all your input so far everyone! I'm very likely going to pass on the base model now after listening to what you guys said.. Found this one that I'm going to try to work a deal on now.. I'm thinking $24k is a fair price? One year newer but no CPO and 6k more miles.

    Its not.

    1. You're upside down on the Mustang. You have to pay nearly $5k to get rid of it, yet its probably a perfectly good car.
    2. Audis depreciate fast too. Check the trade-in value for a 6 year old base A4, that's what yours will be worth in 2-3 years.

Yes, there's nothing at all wrong with the Mustang but I was in a roll over car accident in late October of last year and my back hasn't been the same since.. It's getting increasingly hard to continue to drive the stiff Mustang so the comfort holds some value in itself that I haven't mentioned yet. But yeah the negative equity is definitely killer. Makes this deal harder.

I think the guys here have convinced me to steer away from the base so I'm looking at a Premium Plus now.. I'll take a look at older ones like you said to get a good feel for their depreciation.

I agree with the last comment on here whole heartedly. I search and waited almost 8 months and actually watch my Avant site on the Audi dealer lot for over 200 days. It's Teak Brown and there are many Audi enthusiasts here that wanted that color. It only helped my bargaining with it sitting on their lot for so long.
The right one will just feel right and you won't be able to walk away from it!

    Good luck hunting...

Wow. I saw your OP and expected some flaming by members about your financial decisions. It's nice to see that it stayed somewhat on topic, even though you are opening the door to financial judgment. You took most of the depreciation hit on your mustang. You can wait another year or maybe two and your payments should come close to catching up with the value. Same goes for the A4. Most of the quick depreciation is over and should be kind of stable here on out. New cars "are what we thought they were!" But back to the car, I agree, don't ever buy base on any car. And nav has much more to do with the controls ergonomics and just having a map then it does have to do with getting directions IMO. Good luck.

    2014 Mustang V6 vs. 2013 Audi A4 Quattro - NEED SOME ADVICE

I know we've exchanged some comments in the Buyer's thread, but the comments here indicate the general opinion and the thoughts on spending your mod budget retrofitting it to make the car what you wanted from the start are completely accurate. Prem+ and Sport Package are worth waiting for... Nav is subjective, personally I wish mine had it but some people don't care.

I'd get your negotiating skills to work on this one... Prem+, sport (look for the clues in the Buyer's Guide thread), and nav. Very desirable setup. I used Miami as a zip code and this is the cheapest CPO sport package car within 200mi. The price is roughly in line with the national average for a car equipped like that, although it may be slightly high for an automatic.

    Thanks everyone for your input!

UPDATE: I went and drove the 2014 A4 I posted yesterday and it wasn't 'the one'. After listening to everyone on here's advice I've decided it may be wisest to wait it out a little longer and keep hunting / paying down the Mustang.. I greatly appreciate everyone's input and am shocked that I didn't get a flood of hate but rather A LOT of helpful advice that has lead to my final decision. Especially being I'm not even "part of the community" (yet).

    I greatly appreciate you all!
