6 speed swap oddity, info needed

As some of you may have seen on some of my other posts that I recently completed a swap in my '03 Avant from the 5 speed to an 0A3 6 speed out of an S4. Everything worked out great and the car runs and drives beautifully. The only issue I have is the shifter. I got a shifter out of an 05 A4 (B6) as I was led to believe that it would be what I needed. It does indeed fit and shift the transmission fine, aside from one aspect that is annoying. The gears are backwards from where they should be. Instead of having reverse, first, third and fifth on top, I have second, fourth and sixth. Basically it seems as if the X-axis pivot is backwards. I cannot tell if I have the wrong shifter or the wrong linkages. I can find info about the S4 shifter but not the A4 shifter, and I can find info about the A4 rods but nothing on the S4 rods. Anyone have a source for me to look over and find out what I need to locate to put my gears where they belong?

Here is my setup. It looks exactly the same as the setup in my wife's B7 with a 2.0t and 6 speed. Hers shifts opposite of mine, telling me the shifter probably pivots different.

    Help? Please?

Use a shifter assembly and shift rods from a B7 6 speed? Are the levers on the shifter shafts in the trans oriented on the shifter shafts correctly?

Found a source for better information. The 0A3 transmission selector rod is different than the rest of the 6 speeds. It drops below the selector shaft instead of coming in from the top. The search is on for a used selector rod as new = $300 = no bueno

This is really interesting. What is most surprising is that everything works with the wrong rod. Pretty cool.

There is probably some legitimate reason that makes sense of this. A mechanical rearrangement inside the transmission that makes it necessary for the selector to work opposite of how it's been for over 20 years.
