    Hi Gents,

Had to cut a stuck inner race off the wheel hub today. Due to the angle I had to use with the cut wheel it nicked the hub in a few areas. They are not as deep as they would appear on the photo. Would it be allright to reuse the hub?

On the same note, anyone had any luck pressing the hub and the bearing together with a shop vice? Seems very doable.

The hub will be fine. Just make sure that there are no rough edges. Put the hub in the freezer and the bearing in the oven. Heat to around 150 degrees. Put a thin film of oil on the hub and press quickly.

Thank you sir. So I guess I should dremel the edges with a polishing wheel then. Also the vice is at a friends house, is it ok to heat the bearing with a propane torch? I'll keep the hub in a cooler.

I would not use a tourch. You may overheat the grease in the bearing and drastically reduce the life of the bearing.

First, use a fine file to carefully remove any rough edges of the gouges to the same level as the ground hub OD. Do not try to remove the gouges, just make sure the edges of the gouges do not protrude more than the ground OD of the bearing seat.
