235/40 19? Why no one runs these?

I am getting a set of 19's with 43 offset, but I plan on spacing them out a bit and they are 8.5" wide. The recommended tire is 235/35/19. I get that, BUT I am wondering if I could go a little taller at the 235/40. My car is an Ultrasport, so it is a little lower (1"?) I think, but my current tires are 10mm spaced and the stock USP wheels at 43 offset, 8" wide. and are 18's.

The selection of tires are really great at the 235/40/19 compared to the 235/35/19 and the 245/35/19's. Would I fit them? Would I lose MPG and torque? I am running a APR 1+ stage.

    Thanks for any tips.

There is also the option of 245/35/19's, but the selection of tire isn't as good in that size either. I love my Michelin MXM4's, but looking at the Pirelli CINTURATO P7 ALL SEASON PLUS, which is getter crazy good reviews. I am looking for a quiet nice riding tire with a good sidewall. My least favorite tire was a Continental DWS with a VERY flimsy sidewall. Never want to go back to that tire.

I have searched German, Swedish, UK and US forums with NO luck on the 235/40/19! Am I going to be the first? That could be a big mistake on my part. lol

I would stick to the 35 sidewall as the 40 will look a little goofy. Assuming they'd fit without rubbing, there wouldn't be any issue besides looking funky. The 3% larger diameter also is effectively giving you longer gearing, so technically a slight decrease in acceleration is plausible.

I'm not sure how you're having trouble with tire selection in 235/35/19 and 245/35/19 as those are extremely common sizes. Also, the P7 All-season is OE equipment on the B8 S4 and gets mediocre reviews. Bad in snow, and not particularly great dry performance.

If you insist on an all-season, I'd go for the DWS 06 (first choice) or the Pilot Sport AS3s.

Thanks for your response. I don't track my car, so I don't really need tires that wear out in a year or two. My current MXM4's are on year three, so that is about 45,000 miles on an AWD car, which is really good. Looks like they did some redesigning of the DWS, but it really had a horrible sidewall when I owned a set and felt like a Blizzack. I may end up on the 335/35, but the selection is most all Max Performance, which will wear out fast.

Interesting reads on the new DWS 06. Seems they have corrected that horrible sidewall mush feel. I hated that DWS, but maybe this new one is worth a look. Not sure if Tirerack still reads this forum?
