Oil leak on the oil housing 99 1.8t AEB

99 1.8t AEB A4 I took apart the oil cooler housing because i could see oil dripping out, Replaced all of the gaskets inside, started the car, no leak go down the road come back oil pouring out, it seems to be from behind the housing, and is dripping onto the brace below it,but is not above the housing, the only part i didnt replace the gaskets on was the part that connects to the block itself, and it doesnt seem to be leaking from there the oil is falling straight down from the back side of the filter going to get pictures and video to see what u guys think

I'm slightly confused as to what you did. Are you talking about the whole oil filter housing, the one that bolts to the block?

im talking about taking the filter off, Pulling the bolt off the middle taking that out and replacing the gaskets that i came across i havent touched the bolts on the block, the leak is coming from the corner closest to the block, next to the filter housing

so would it be better just to buy a new housing or get it broke down again and go a little further, Breaking it all back down checking to make sure everything went back tight.

so this is where the leak is, and it doesnt leak at all when the car is off or just turned on, only after it heats up. The hotter the car the more oil have replaced all the seals to the cooler.

Well if its leaking take it off and figure out why. No matter what you do, you will have to take it off and figure out whats going on. Look for cracks in the housing. It could also be that you did not tighten the HUGE nut down in the center enough. One thing to pay attention to. When you remove the oil filter it can sometimes loosen that giant nut. Also you MUST replace that gasket with a new one when it gets old and hard, or it will leak.

Look for imperfections in the mating surface between oil cooler housing and block. Also replace the o ring that goes between them and put it in correctly, there is a correct way.

i have placed it in the "Correct way" i also have taken the entire piece apart "again" felt around it, and didnt feel or see any imperfections the seal went back in the originals place, I checked on here to make sure it went on the right way also, i believe its leaking where it meets the block so im gonna go deeper down the rabbits hole.

From that video it doesn't look like it is leaking from the block. Since it is dripping down from the corner of the oil cooler it looks like it is from in between either the oil cooler and filter, or the oil cooler and the oil cooler housing. It could also be from a line or sensor that is on top of your oil cooler housing. If it were leaking from the block to oil cooler housing it would just run down the side of the block.

yea i checked the sensor, there was some oil on it, Looking into that now, the cooler seal was leaking, i just thought i missed something, there is much less oil but still a steady stream.

dunno if there were different types, ie look the same but not the same, seems to be a thing that happens with most german made cars

Sorry, I linked one for my car. They should be the same since they are both for AEB, but to be safe just google your car year.

Sure thing! Also if it's leaking from the threads, you can try putting teflon tape on it and threading it back in.

Was it removed and possibly cross-threaded? Is it cracked? Not tightened enough?

already checked, teflon wont do anything since its under so much pressure the oil just starts streaming out of it, so im just gonna replace it, i think there may be 1 more leak somewhere a little higher tho, maybe the breather hose is leaking again, because everything around it was soaked earlier when i took the picture of the sensor, i bought the breather hose from ECStuning hopefully its not leaking already, lol
