After a short eight months and three weeks of ownership my 2016 S5 has been declared a total loss.
As badly as the car was damaged, fortunately, I walked away from the accident without injury, not even a scrape, scratch, or bruise. And for that, I'm grateful. I'm pretty impressed with the safety of the B8 platform.

Speed limit was 25 mph and my best guess of his speed was 40-45 mph.

Thanks. I considered the RS5 when I bought my second S5 and chose the S5 over the RS5 based on interior color options, ability to tune the S5 to RS5 power levels (albeit with the burden of worrying about TD1 flags), and perceived gas mileage advantage (I think this only exists during highway cruising...lol). After briefly browsing the used RS5 market after my accident, I found that there are some pretty good deals to be had on low mileage RS5's...and I've wanted one since they were introduced in Europe in 2010, so that's what I'm going to pursue.

He crossed the intersection from my left. Instead of t-boning him, I turned hard right and we collided my left front to his right front then my left rear to his right rear. My car took the brunt of the damage and he ended up about 200 feet away from me about six feet from a gas pump after jumping a curb and median and coming to rest on the gas pump island.

Car and loan are fully covered. My insurance will pay out, then collect from theirs.

I agree. I wasn't mad about the car at all, I was just grateful that I was okay. The taxi driver told the police officer that he had some neck pain but he was out of the car and walking around. I haven't heard any updates on his condition but hopefully he's okay.

My sister-in-law asked me if I was pissed about the car and I told her that I'd only be pissed if they wanted to repair it.
The car protected me in a pretty hard crash, what's there to be mad about?

I'm looking forward to getting the performance parts off the car and getting into an RS5.

Exactly the right attitude. Its amazing how priorities change when a wreck gets bigger. Sucks hard that it happened but walking away from it unscathed is way more important.

Ouch. Glad to hear you and the other driver walked away. And that insurance totaled your car! They were borderline on my smashed S4 for a while and those were very nerve-wracking days. Enjoy your RS5 or whatever you end up in!

I can't help but think you're saying this because yours was silver. As nice as silver cars look, I could never own another one in my life. People have a hard time seeing silver cars, so I got cut off constantly in my silver car.

You are 100% correct, and in-fact, and buddy of mine specifically would not buy his kids silver vehicles for that reason. One got a red e46 and the other, a blue b5. But yea, huge silver fan. Classy and aggressive, shows the body better than any other color, and it is the easiest to maintain. Both the SQ and mk7 are silver too

Thanks for the compliments. Prism Silver is a beautiful color and was at the top of my list of three which also included Daytona and Suzuka Gray.
