    Hello all!

I recently disconnected the battery in order to install a new headunit for my B7. In the process of trying to remove the instrument cluster (after removing the two screws, I noticed that the wood trim somehow was positioned on top of the lower left instrument cluster trim- thereby preventing me from doing so), the MODE button accidently popped out. I was able to replace it in position but now it no longer "click" on push.

I was wondering whether you all think whether the lower three buttons (- + MODE) can be repaired/replaced. I would hate to have to replaced the entire instrument cluster. If I do decide to replace the cluster, is it plug-and-play or do I have to find someone to code it for me?

Thanks for any advice that you all can give.

I wanted to mount the GPS antenna behind he cluster but the left trim was over the housing and dislodged the Mode button by mistake. The GPS in the shark fin doesn't work in my car. BTW, was there at Enfig and Christian confirmed that it doesn't work.

If your GPS antenna has a magnetic back, then if you remove the lower panel under your steering column, there are metal support braces that provide a simple location that will get you good signal. That's where I put mine for my Pioneer AppRadio3.

As for the instrument cluster buttons.... I have no experience with them unfortunately, but I'd bet your looking at a replacement, which will mean reprogramming for your keys as well.

Next time you have a project, reach out to the community first for suggestions, links, etc. and use the search feature. Some members have TONS of experience with this generation of A4 and can help you avoid situations like this one. That's why we're here, to help & learn.

Hopefully, someone will be able to chime in and provide you with a fix.

Guarantee you there is someone who can just solder a new switch on to that circuit board. I found a guy to solder new LCD's on to a couple instrument clusters I had on two B5's. I just put an ad in Craigs List. Got several response. Nothing special about the switch behind that Mode button.

No, not even close. You'll trigger the immobilzer thing and your car won't start. If you really have to have a new cluster, I've got one I could sell you. But you'd have to send it to Tom at Speedometer Solutions along with your old one so he could clone it. Or you could take it to the dealer and give him your first born male child.

The switch has a plastic rod from behind that probably serves to depress a position on the motherboard. Can't see why that rod can't be fixed?

So it's not the switch that's broken, its the plastic rod on the back of the Mode button? Somebody somewhere is selling a dead cluster.....you could just harvest the Mode plastic from one of those.

Update: my Indy Audi guy was able to replace the switch on my original cluster. So all is good. Thanks to all who have responded.
