    New Mod idea and question - OEM Style switches or clean looking switches.

    I'd like to add various switches for my upcoming mod plans (Subwoofer, auxiliary back up lights, and bi-xenon fog retrofit ) but want something with an OEM look. The best idea I have so far is to use the ashtray (who would smoke [cigarettes] in such a beautiful car?)

    With that said, the panel has to fit in that area. I have no qualms about cutting up the area under the door to fit a nice panel, so the max dimensions are something around 150mm X 40 - 50mm. Many of the marine rocker switches with lit up faces are just about too big to fit and they look 'almost' good/cool enough:

    The best thing would be a panel of OE switches from another car (possibly a VW or older Audi) that lit up and had the soft touch rubberized surface. If I could source a set of buttons that I like, making a panel to hold them out of ABS or even carbon wouldn't be too hard. But my real issue is finding switches that will look good, and also not break the bank.

    I've searched the Internets and only found answers in the Tundra and Jeep forums. Throw out ideas... I'm hoping to get a VAG-sourced answer (<---- someone knock that outta the park, I'm ready for comedy)

    How many switches are you trying to fit in there, 3 for the three things you listed?
    Current:

    C6 A6 S-line - GONE

    I'm thinking Left aux light, Right aux light, Sub On/Off, and Fogs blinding mode. So 4. Maybe an aux port too?

    I'm starting to think something simple like rubber booted marine style switches would be best, but don't have much cool factor. I found some that are so cheap, I might as well just fab something up real quick until I get more inspiration.

    Amazon 5 switches

    Or these are a little more heavy duty, but nothing is going to be carrying real current. I'll use a relay for the fog cut off shield activation:

    Heavy Duty

    But I'm still waiting on someone to show me something cool. Maybe I should go peruse VWVortex

    I cant tell how wide each are, but you could use something like these;

    Those would likely fit 5 with room. I'll put them on the list of potentials. I'm starting to lean towards aluminum toggles.

    I'll post back when I have something more solid.

    I think I may have found my switches or at least the vendor to use. They seem to have a vast selection of switch-making parts and can customize my order. I think I will go with black faced buttons, 16 - 20 mm diameter buttons (should fit 5 easily with room for a USB and an Aux-in tap). They will also customize the engraving. Unless I find another option in the next week or so, I will go with this place:
