    JHM 93 Oct Stage 2 - Review

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So a couple of weeks ago I put a full exhaust on my car. I figured I might as well do my HPFP internals as well. So with this new set up and already being stage 1 with JHM I felt an improvement.

Now here's the good stuff. I took a half day at work to go and get my car flashed with JHM's 93 Oct stage 2 program. Words can not explain how much this car has transformed again. It is not nearly as big from going stock to stage 1, but you can really feel that the car is different.

Town Driving: Immediately when I left the shop I noticed it was different. I wanted to get on it, but unfortunately that would have to wait. Around town the car feels like it runs 10 times better. I had a weird rattle noise that went away as well (which I am fairly positive had nothing to do with the tune.) At first I thought man this car feels thirsty, not like its sucking down all my gas though but that it can suck down so much more than I am giving it. Then I went to get on the Highway.

Highway Driving: So of course when I merged on to the highway I happened to just be at 3K RPMS in 2nd gear. So naturally I checked and then let it fly. all the way until I left in third gear it put a grin on my face. Its not "faster" as in peak numbers but you can feel that where once it used to get tired, it just keeps pulling all day. I guess this is the curve being a little flatter.

Spirited back roads: So finally get off the highway by my house and decide to have a little fun on the back roads. I really wanted to see how much 1st changed, doubting that there was any change that low. Well I was wrong, or perhaps this is placebo effect im not sure. I punched it in first, right into second and hit 60 and backed off it. It is definitely quicker than stage 1 and you can feel it in all gears.

Over All: 10/10 I love the way my car drives even more now, I can't wait to drive it to work everyday and its definitely a little funner. Some of you may wonder about gas mileage and I actually think mine increased. I usually can squeeze about 400 or so when I calculate miles driven + what the computer says I have left to empty. My calculation now is at 500, even with getting on it a lot on the highway and romping down the back roads.

TL;DR I cant say enough about this tune and company, buy their shit, its great.

The stage 2 is out? Now if only I can stop hitting set backs to get my engine back in my car... stage 1/2 sitting there waiting to be flashed.

I would highly recommend anyone that is even considering staying stage 1 to shell the money for an exhaust and the internals to get this stage 2 file. I still want to put together a dyno day so I can see what I am making. I need to get a few more goodies first though. *cough cough* FMIC

Agreed. Just bite the bullet and do the supporting mods.

I've been running this for a few months in beta, and soon to do the retail version. I've recently added an FMIC and its pulling even harder. No complaints here!

    Everyone, go do it!

I'm stg2+ on a TIP and highly recommend it! Getting rid of the car at the end of the year in favor of the 3.0T so hopefully they are working on some file

Not that it's a huge deal because cam followers are an easy thing to replace, but don't the upgraded internals for the HPFP cause excessive wear to the cam follower? I guess this would be my one concern to going stage 2.

Jake, after we get a tune from you guys, if we have the ability to log, can we send the files back to you so that you guys can "fine tune" the maps to our specific car?

Yes, my experience is that cam followers wear and should be replaced in about 10,000 miles with an APR pump. There was no wear at 10,000 miles with my stock pump. Not a big deal, but you are right.

I have not noticed any accelerated wear with our pumps and cam followers. The spring rates are only slightly stiffer than stock.

Not at this time. Custom tunes though start at $1000

I know this has been discussed many times but I wanted to ask/confirm, for the JHM stage 2 tune is all I need a exhaust (with a downpipe) and a HPFP?
Also, is the JHM upgrade kit good for stage 2? (https://jhmotorsports.com/shop/catal...si-p-2653.html)

    Thanks in advance

You need a full cat-back exhaust and upgrade hpfp. The hpfp upgrade kit is good for stage 2 93.
