Eyeing an AR in Carollton, TX - questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Found an AR that matches my criteria almost perfectly, however it's a bit of a distance from me. If anyone is in the area, and if it is convenient, would you mind checking it out for me? Shoot me a PM.

More general questions...it is a CPO with 42k being sold by a non-Audi dealer. The Carfax is thin. The dealership said they changed all fluids when they got it, but that's all that is known about the service history. Other than the registration info for the two owners and the 5k CPO, the Carfax has one service entry:

    10/31/2014
    24,761
American's Service Station Bee Cave, TX; Vehicle serviced; Emissions inspection performed

From the copious amount of pictures, it seems very clean. The sales guy obviously told me that the car is super clean and shows well - didn't really expect him to tell me otherwise. He also told me they got it from auction, which is not showing on CarFax. The service history is a little concerning. My current car has an even more spartan CarFax since it has been babied by a Subaru specialty shop since day one, so I understand CarFax is not gospel.

So what is the general consensus? Is no service history a major red flag? How does the CPO factor into the equation? Assuming a '12 in-service date, I'd have two years of cover. What would have been so neglected in 40k miles that would not be covered under the CPO warranty? Any reputable Audi dealerships or shops that anyone is willing to recommend to do an inspection on the car?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Being 42k on the clock and minimal service record would make me question it. Can you get the VIN from that dealer then call your local official audi dealer to check on the status of the cpo and ask if it has audiCare (audiCare is pretty much prepaid service cost) on the account.

My previous G35 coupe was bought from an auction by the dealer I purchased the car and it has appropriate carfax record for its mileage

Yep, grab the VIN and call an Audi dealer to get a printout on any maintenance

Another Arlington allroad in the mix, possibly - I like it.

Why would a "thin" service history be a red flag? It could be that the prior owners were lucky and never required servicing on the AR. The maintenance work may have also been performed through independent Audi shop. I would be more concerned if it had a "thick" service history.

If I ever sell my AR, I can almost guarantee you, there will be little, if any service records noted on my CarFax. I do all the maintenance myself and keep a log with all receipts as proof.

One other side not, buying a CPO'd car is a good choice, but be careful. The CPO warranty is nothing like the 4yr/50K. There are many things covered under the initial warranty that are not covered under the CPO, IE, your sound system, navi, etc...

CPO, as far as I know, cannot be transferred from one owner to another without a bunch of paperwork to transfer the warranty... If it's at a non-Audi dealer I don't think it's CPO.

My Audi dealer here in Oregon transferred the CPO warranty over to me from previous owner in about 2 min by just checking that the title was now in my name and that the warranty was still valid. I'm sure it varies by dealer and state though

I'll give Audi a call to see what they can tell me regarding maintenance, Audi Care, and CPO. Hopefully there is more to the history. S4BlackCab - thoughts on Audi of Arlington? Talked with one of their sales reps once who was a total douche. Literally referred to the front desk ladies as "whores". I left immediately. Their service dept ok?

The fact that the CarFax is "thin" isn't, by itself, concerning. Like I said, my current car has zero entries, but has been maintained by the book if not better and I have the records to hand to a new owner. But, there isn't much information on the Allroad suggesting proper maintenance. If the CarFax was empty and the dealer handed me a folder of receipts, I wouldn't care about the CarFax. Conversely, if the CarFax was "thick" of oil changes and book maintenance, I wouldn't hesitate at all.

Jacon - replying to your PM...

skifreak - Audi Arlington is good (wait times for loaners is usually pretty bad, though), Tysons is cheaper if you're paying out of pocket and if you really want cheap/good service Criswell Audi in Annapolis is the spot.

Good to know. Wouldn't mind a drive out to naptown now and again! Hard to argue with convenience of Audi Arlington...literally two blocks from our house.

So, Audi said it has been maintained by the book. AudiCare remains on the vehicle and there is one more service and a brake flush included. Factory 50k/4 years is up this Oct and the CPO lasts until Oct '18. This sounds great. But also sort of begs the question (at least in my mind), why would the previous owner ditch it? The first owner shows as "commercial" and they had it for the first 5k. Could this have been part of a loaner fleet? Seems well sorted to be a loaner (prem+, sport, B+O, silver inlays)...maybe it was just a company car.

Is the 50k service the big service on the AR or is the 35k?

Sounds like a OEM/Field car, where was it first registered?

Service increments are every 10K, starting at 5K, so next service (and last AudiCare service) is the 45k, which is the largest service under warranty (brake flush)

Born and raised in TX if CarFax is to be believed.

Cool. He said one more service and brake flush were left on the AudiCare.

Strong possibility that it was an OEM owned car, VWGoA has a regional office in Dallas and with it being given up after the 5K that's about standard protocol. It's nicely optioned - hard to find the Sport Package on allroad's and it's got B&O which is a nice option as well.
