    Capristo (maybe) for sale

Heresy I know. I love this thing, but it's waking my kid up on cold starts. I think I would still really enjoy the way the car sounds with the intake alone, but I'm also very scared I'll really miss the Capristo when it's gone.

I'm not fully committed to removing it yet, but this is sort of a feeler for a good home out there. It's only a year and a half old and less than 10k miles on it. People can PM me if interested because I don't wanna tie up a thread with a bidding war - but if it does go it's not going cheap.

I want to keep this car for another 1-3 years but 2 doors really does suck with a kid. I actually have a great deal on an M6 GC lined up right now but I can't quite justify leaving the car I love along with the Quattro at this point.

Am I an idiot? My thinking is if I miss the Capristo too much I'll just get the M6 lol.

Why not buy the remote controller and set it to start with valves closed (if it's possible).

I don't even know where to start. The capristo is going to be missed 100%. Not sure how a sale is going to work when you like it a lot, not sure you want to sell, and don't want to let it go at a good price.

    I would just keep it.

Then I don't know how selling the capristo then missing it would lead to getting an M6 GC. I assume you'd get a 4door version.

If your kids are waking up, tell them it's the sound of the gods wakening.

Edit: Also agreed, doesn't Capristo have a closed valve option?

Oh and the car sounds great with OE sports exhaust and Eventuri intake.

    Just in case.

Yeah I don't want to spend the cash on the RC module. Seems like a waste. I also really love the intake sound and have been driving with the valves closed a bit more to enjoy it and this is also swaying me a bit that way I think.

The GC has been on my radar for a couple years - as much as I want to I can't fall in love with the RS7 and there aren't any other sedans out there that would best an RS5. I would consider an RS6 if they were available in NA. As soon as my kid was born I knew my coupe days were numbered.

    I appreciate the opinions guys.

FYI my kid loves the car and some day he's gonna hate me for not keeping it forever.

You sound like me, but your budget is slightly higher lol. I. I normally just end up letting it go haha. I have a really nice B8 S5 4.2 as a DD which I love. But I always keep debating of going to a 4 door S4, I have a 10 year old kid, so it would be helpful. But if we take the S5 with all of us, we usually stick Mom in the back, problem solved ;) I hit 30 not long ago, i think its a mini mid life crisis. Like i need to be this really cool Dad when i go to my kids baseball games etc. There will NEVER be a mini van in my household, not even a cross over, not even once.....

I always thinking moving to a face lift S4 which would be sweet, but I'd probably miss the roar of the V8. I don't speed race around so I don't really care for 1/4 mile times like I did years ago with all my toys.
But I always think, well my favorite of the bunch is the RS5, to me it's the total package and plenty fast. So I tell myself I'll keep the S5 for another 1-2 years and upgrade to my beloved RS5 when they hit the 40k range.

You live once, if it's in financial reason and will make you happy and help you sleep at night, go for it what makes you happy. At this point after having a few AWD drive cars living in PA, i want to stick with AWD. My S5 plows through the snow basically better than my DD i use to have which was a Hummer H3 SUV, other than the ground clearance.

RS5 is a special car though to me at least. It will hold its value just as good as the B7 RS4 i assume from a enthusiast stand point. I have seen them still go for like low 20k with higher miles if taken care of.

Does the Capristo system automatically start with valves open without having the remote to close it, or can you just close them before you shut off the car when you know you'll have a coldstart the next morning?

If it were me, I'd just get the kid some earplugs.

The cost of adding the RC for the Capristo is much less than what you'll lose on the trade and cost of the new GC. I agree, the GC is a beautiful car and worth a look but completely overdone where I live. The OEM Sport exhaust with Eventuri does sound great but after 1 month with the Akrapovic it would be hard to go back. My kids are older and out of the car seats and I still have a coupe. It's important that Dad is happy with his daily drive. The wife drives the Q5, thats the family hauler.

btw, my son always told me to keep the S5 forever. Now that I have the RS, he says the same thing.

He is right, the kid is right. I should listen to my 10 year old more often kids are smart these days. Unless he is asking me for a $350 baseball bat, at his age in that case i have trouble hearing him lol.

    I hear ya John..

When I switched over to the AWE Extreme, it was very loud on cold starts. It did disturb my younger one who was between 2-3 years old every time she was sleeping. It became challenging to leave early morning or after my kidos when to sleep. TBH though, I think they got used to it. I wish Audi would get it together in the exhaust dept. Esp on their upper end sports cars. Had the RS actually sounded good with the "sports" exhaust, I would have left things as they were. IMO the RS sounds lame when compared to other cars of it's caliber.

As far as the two door bit goes, for me it was just a dumb move to get into a coupe with two young kids. The RS just became impractical. I think the GC or any four door vehicle is better with smaller kids.

Perhaps your kid(s) will eventually get used to the start up, but sounds like the two door bit is not practical like it was in my case.

Ha. Trust me, my kid is smart...but he's only 1. Car seats are in the foreseeable future - like next 10 years pending any siblings. I'm willing to spend cash on my cars, but I refuse to buy a garage queen - the car has to do it all, all year long. Jesus I'm getting old.

And I would never call buying an RS5 a dumb move hahaha. How are you liking the Merc?

So are you just trying to get rid of the capristo or are you thinking of getting a more practical family car in general.. in addition to the X5?

My post-kid plan was to always get into a high performance sedan. The wife is happy driving a SUV but I am not. My thinking was C8 RS7 or 6 if it comes here, but I was a huge M5 fanboy in the 90's and the M6 GC is likely where I'm headed - especially with the next generation going AWD. The M5 and M6 really don't do it for me but the GC is really an amazing car.

My dilemma is jump now (or next year) into a current M6 GC or wait 3 years for either the C8 RS or next gen GC. I took the long way home after work today and decided the Capristo stays if the car stays. This thing is fucking amazing and I don't think the car is appropriate without it. I think the days when I have to leave the house at 4am (thankfully not often) I'll suck it up and take the X5.

I'll let y'all know when I'm ready for a big boy car and part out at the last minute. Thanks for the help guys - I really do appreciate it. It's good to get some car guy opinions.

Christ, must be loud in person. I mean I've seen vids but I'm sure in person it's something else.

Here I am going back and forth over here if I should order AWE track B8 S5 4.2, I don't want to be too loud & disturb the peace lol. Just need to unleash that V8 growl. ;)

The flaps run from vacuum and uses it to close them, not open the flaps. So it will not be possible to suck them closed until the car has started and built up vacuum, a second or so even with some RC. Sorry :(

Situation differs. Being with my fiancé has doubled my income essentially, she actually makes more than me. More money= more toys, vacations, car parts ;) I get plenty of freedom, actually just got back from Florida from my yearly trip for 5-6 days with my friends, she doesn't even go, nor do their lady's. Just need to find a cool lady. ;)

Now if you are filthy rich, or rich in general. Stay single forever. Don't pay for them to stay, pay for them to leave lol.

I'm not married "yet" technically so I guess shit could go downhill quickly technically lol.
