115000 mile service

Hello all! I got my notification that my '08 3.2 is due for its 115000 mile service. Being your typical college student, price is a big deal for me I've looked up estimates anf the best I've found is a range between $780-1200. I know prices sometime differ by region, but from anyone's personal experience what have you all paid for this service? Any information would be helpful!

Honestly I can't remember that far back but if I recall correctly the service isn't really much more than a normal oil change and inspection. I'm pretty sure that's all I had them do, I did a quick Google search and the scheduled maintenance only goes to 105k doo I'm pretty sure I just did the oil change and had them inspect for leaks etc. I had the carbon cleaning five at about 100k and that ran about 1200 on its own.

I'm sure there varying opinions on the tranny flush etc but I haven't done any of it and I'm at 169.5k and the reason why is because a good friend of mine who is a audi tech has told me it wasn't necessary and he hasn't lead me astray before. I think unless you may be having shifting issues I would leave it. Though I'm sure other will chime in saying that it needs to be done.

Yup, it needs to be done, no fluid is lifetime. It never hurts to change it, and if shifting gets worse after a change, it's not the new fluid at fault. What happens is that the old fluid already had metal, etc in it and was assisting the tranny in negating some slippage. Slippage as a result of new fluid is a a sign that the clutches are worn in an AT tranny.

I am in the same situation. I have never changed the tranny or diff fluid in the car. I look at it like this.....

If you are the type to have changed it on the regular since the begining, then keep doing it. If, however, you are like Dutch and I and have not changed it, then dont. c@@kiemonsta is right in that the metal particles suspended in the fluid of a tranny that has not been changed regularly helps that tranny and changing fluid (removing the metal particals) can cause slippage and shifting issues.

My mechanic (who has worked on all of my cars) pulled a sample of my tranny fluid and advised against a drain, flush and fill for that exact reason. Did I shorten the life of my tranny by not flushing on a regular basis? Maybe. I will continue to run the car as it is and if/when the tranny goes bad, guess I will bend over and take it up the pooper on the rebuild.

That pretty much sums it up, hopefully the tranny will last a while still but i'm almost done paying it off so in the even that the tranny goes I might simply buy a new car and then figure out what I want to do with the old one. Hopefully it is a decision I won't have to make for a while.

I'm almost @ 80k on my B7 3.2 and I'm going to do a fluid change. I'm also not going to be using OEM VAG fluid as it costs an arm and a leg. We will see what happens, but I think I'll be fine.
