Backup Camera Sketchy

Hey All
So yes I've searched but I've not found too many instances of a 2013 backup camera failure. This morning, after it's been quite wet and rainy here in KY, I went ot put my 13 S4 into reverse and the back up picture was all squiglly and staticky. You can't even tell it's a picture. I've heard everything from I'll need a whole new unit to just a fiber optic wire from the unit to the camera.
Anyone else experience the backup camera fail on a b8.5? I'm pretty sure I'm still in warranty with only 36k miles but this for some reason is quite alarming to me. Other than squeaks and rattles, my s4 has been bulletproof, until this.
Thoughts on what to do?

Funny you bring this up, I've on maybe 1-2 occasions had the camera just not come on at all. Yesterday it happened again as I was moving the car out of the garage after I washed it. Mind you, it's been in rain for the last 6 days as you and I have lived the same forcast recently. Turns out my MMI randomly rebooted and it took a few minutes to pop up.

So similar in a sense that it has had a couple bugs but overall nothing like your description.

this issue is common on the b8's. I have it on my 2011 a5

are you on 19's or 20's? are you dropped?

the wiring is located on the driver side wheel well. when I was on 20's, it would not come on most of the time ( static, flickering, and eventually picture just disappears and goes back to MMI ). issue "could" be that the wheel keeps hitting the wiring location in the fender, and may be damaging it

now I am back on 19's, and the issue is still there, but not as frequent

Mine doesn't work on occasion. It is due to a faulty wiring harness,. Not enough of an issue for me to have it attended to right now. Take it in for service. They will replace the harness under warranty.

I also have a 2013 and occasionally I experience your exact issues. I'm going to check the wiring harness later to see it it's hitting the control arm as mentioned in this thread.

Yeah, I saw your threads on the wiring harness and I'll be checking that tonight. I actually went out for lunch and tested it and everything seems fine. Fingers crossed it was just a minor hiccup and not something systemic.
I appreciate all your insights. I'm not lowered and I'm still on the stock 19 peelers so I'm hoping my wiring harness is fine and unaffected.
I'll keep you guys looped in and thanks for all the ideas.

Any chance you've been storing gigantic items in your trunk? (tires, etc) Things that would press against the trunk lid lining when closed. The connection from camera to control module is there, possible point of failure as well.

It will be fine most of the time. But every once in a while it will not work. Get it fixed if it is still under warranty

Yeah. Mine has been doing that randomly and more so lately. The audible warning works but the screen won't switch to the camera. It's not often but happens. It's annoying.

I just went and checked to see if any wires were getting pinched anywhere but I honestly couldn't even find them. I removed the rubber/plastic covers to get at the top of the control arms and searched around with my light and couldn't find any wires as described in this thread or the thread mentioned. I THINK my local indy shop may have rerouted them when I had my coilovers and control arms installed. Could that be the case? I felt all around and didn't see any bunch of wires anywhere as described. On the other hand I did notice my front right tire is practically a slick! Time for new Pilot Super Sports!

I had the same issue with my '14.

Asked the dealer about it during a service and they took a look, found some error codes and completely replaced the wiring harness. Haven't had that issue happen again since. I still have occasions where the temp display from the control stays on the MMI screen and is frozen there. Have to press NAV/TEL/Radio/Media to change screens and get rid of it.

Also, my parcel shelf, drivers side is squeaking every time the car goes over a bump or speed bump. Driving me fucking nuts...

Awe sells a relocation kit for dropped cars, so if very well could be. If that's the case then maybe thats not the issue. Still b nice to know where it went

Agreed. IF they used the AWE relocation bracket would it move the wires completely out of view? Or does the bracket just hold the wires back but they'd still be visible or easy to find by looking? I looked at many different angles and didn't see anything. Anyone have this AWE relocation bracket in place? If so can you post a pic of it?

Of course im sure that spot is optional and u can relocate them far as u can move the wires

I had the exact same issue on my '13, dealer told me there was a "kink" on the cable and replaced it under warranty. Never had an issue after that.

Just did a full system scan with Carista and I only had two faults and both were related to this. This is what the scan found:

I may just clear them and see what happens and ask my shop next time I take it in but just thought I'd share this data with you.

I get faults as well everytime it goes out. But the faults stay there even when it works after
