Replacing my engine, I have questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey Fellas!!

So I blew my 2008 2.0T, cam follower issue, I sourced a 2006 A4 BPG (BPY?) engine and I'm getting ready to put that in. My question(s) is this.
1.swapping my clutch and HPFP from 08 to 06, is this possible, do I need new hardware for either? Stock A4 clutch
    2. Are there any connections or sensors that need replacing?
    3. Are there any other issues that I might run into? I am not doing the install so I want to have all of these gotchas taken care of.

    TIA

not sure about your questions and there are lots of knowlegable people that will chime in.

But if you wouldn't mind sharing how you " blew" your engine due to cam follower issue. It doesn't make sense to be unless you are not using " blew" in the traditional sense.
usually cam followers crunch up the follower and get metal bits in the engine which in turn get in the crankcase causing vastly accelerated engine wear to the point of unusable.

    What happened to yours ?

I would seriously consider a new clutch and throwout bearing while its apart. Unless its brand new, it makes sense to do it now and save yourself the $1200 in labor to get it done later. Stock flywheel bolts are not reuseable. You will have to swap fuel lines or the fitting on the hpfp because the BPG used the banjo bolt.

If I had intentions of keeping the car I would, I cant swing a new clutch right now anyway, I owed on my taxes and I dont use CC's.

Is there a part number so I can purchase it separately? I need to purchase bolts anyway so I want one solid purchase.

The Engine has metal shavings in the oil pickup and the head is being starved of Oil, plus I need a new Cam and chain etc, so instead of ripping the engine apart and rebuilding, should of done that in the first, I sourced a 2006 engine.

    Can anyone else chime in?

Can someone explain what I would need to do to make sure the 2008 HPFP works on the 2006 engine, other than the banjo can I have an idea of how i would accomplish it?

How complete is the 2006 motor you are buying? Does it have the intake manifold and all the fuel lines with it?

I will have to look, tbh the grease monkey isnt strong in this one, to my understanding its the complete engine and exhaust turbo, all I am missing is the pump that i am aware of. Give me an idea of where to look, so I can grab some pics if necessary.

If it's just missing the pump, you need to swap a fitting on the hpfp so it can accept the banjo bolt. You also need the banjo bolt.

for the HPFP from 08 to 06 I think the only difference is the Banjo bolt.

Good news, So from what I gather I need new bolts for the clutch and the banjo. Assuming Ill need to go to Audi for all of this unless ECS would have it all. Do I need new bolts for the HPFP? Arent they stretch bolts as well?

Do not over torque the HPFP bolts! The female threads in the aluminum housing can be easily stripped out. You can change to studs if you want as many on the forum have. It is not necessary unless you have an aftermarket high flow HPFP in which case you would be checking your cam follower much more often. The idea is that you would not be wearing out the female threads of the aluminum housing by constantly threading/unthreading the steel bolts. The studs are permanently lock-tite fixed into the housing so you would be threading a steel nut on the steel stud which is a much more durable situation. My understanding is that the HPFP is a bit more difficult to get off with the stud arrangement.

the HPFP is a bit of a pain, I tried to replace it and I stopped. Its using the Banjo piece on the 2006 engine is really where is issues are, where do I get the bolt so I need anything else to do etc. I had no idea about the bolts, if somehow I end up keeping the car I will look into doing just that.

For my transplanted clutch, is this what I am looking for to do the Install? https://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B7_A4...Kit/ES2588210/

Im looking at the HPFP for the 2006, and its a universal model for all 2.0t, unless i am missing something do I still need to worry about it? https://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B7_A4....0T/ES2719616/

all correct.. but I don't feel the follower wear has anything to do with upgraded pump .. but that's for another thread ... to OP you don't need to replace them really for what you are doing , they are not stretch bolts by any means

give or take, yes. Its all subject to change, like everything else. So, I can use existing everything? Which is a good thing if its still true.

https://deutscheautoparts.com/06f-127-213-b.html - Looks like this is what I need, says its for Early 2006 Cars. I have no idea when this was made, but for $40 ill buy it anyway.

My friends have moved on the 5 series, one has the S, and its amazing. If I dump the A4 that's my immediate purchase.

    Delawhere?

I just swapped a motor into mine, super easy swap. New clutch, fly wheel bolts, check the rear coolant flange and replace if needed while it's out. Probably not a bad idea to drop the pan on the new motor to make sure all is good in there. I believe as long as the engine came from a manual trans or like mine was out of a CVT auto trans you are good. The normal auto will not work. I did new plugs and serpentine belt etc... Depending on how many miles are on the donor motor, you might consider doing the carbon clean while it's out as well. Good luck man.

Wouldn't swapping just the head be a faster easier option? since, if it is actually true that there is head damage, that would be the only item to replace. Even if there were particles on the pick-up screen, it wouldnt be getting to the main and rod bearings due to the oil filter. How many miles on the 08 engine?

Original Motor might have more problems than just the damage to the head, I am not willing to take the chance, still upset I didn't just pull it and have a minor bottom end build and replace the head components. 08 motor has about 110k.
