    2015 S3 Need oil

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Oil light came on yesterday and I need to add a quart I suppose. Still a couple thousand miles from my next oil change.

What is the oil weight and brand Audi typically puts in these cars?

    Thanks

Typically there is a sticker under the hood which identifies the weight and make of the oil. If not, check the owner's booklet or lastly, and least reliably, call the dealership. I would encourage you to check the oil regularly, say monthly at least, when you check your tire pressure. Waiting until the oil light (idiot light) illuminates is not a good thing.

5W40 Synthetic. I believe Castrol is what Audi puts in them, but there is a ton of threads regarding which oil is best... Liquimoly, Motul, Castrol.... ect. Myself I'm stocked up on Liqui Moly since I get it dirt cheap in Germany and everything else is stupid expensive in Germany.

Liquimoly is a great oil! I ran it for years in my Porsche 993.

Great info on oil recommendations, but shouldn't the bigger question be why was it a quart low?

Verm, do you have any mods?

Milltek cat back and an APR intake. My guess is it just eats oil as most other turbo engines do. Oil to keep the turbo cool, some is bound to burn up.

Factory fill is supposedly Castrol 0W-40, but there is a decent selection of quality and reasonably priced euro car spec'ed 0W-40 (just make sure it meets VW/Audi spec). I switched to M1 0W-40 after 4000 miles.

It's been 8+ months since your last top-up I assume? If so, I think it's fine, although not great, but still fine. Compared to my 2007 335i coupe which required top-up every 2nd fill up (about 2-3 weeks).

I've had two wrx's and two sti's, and only the oldest wrx required a quart every 5k.

All Subaru's burn tons of oil. When your pistons lay sideways and you use low emission low tension ring bullshit it's bound to happen.

I've changed my oil with Rotella T6 every 5,000 miles. My S3 is a hair over 40,000 miles now and has never burned a drop. Dipstick is always at the full mark every time I change it.
