Looking at the new Q7 as our first Audi...

    Hi all,

I am new here, and as the title says, my wife and I are looking at picking up a new Q7 (2017) later this year. I am trying to get a better feel, and certainly knowledge base, on Audi as a brand. So, my hope was that those folks who have owned several models can give me their general impressions on the company and its cars. Of course, I am most interested in what folks with an Audi SUV have to say, but I think opinions from folks across the line can be useful. I certainly expect quite an adjustment as I am coming from a Mustang GT to a SUV. lol.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I have owned 4 Audis. Currently I have a 2008 Q7 with more than 120,000 miles and a 2016 S6 with less than 5,000 miles. My opinion is that you are getting into a great brand and great cars - if you're like me you will love your new Q7.

    My advice:

    1. Have your car serviced on recommended intervals (every 10k miles you take it in for oil and services) and have it done either by yourself or an Audi dealership. DO NOT take it to your local oil change shop; you will want only Audi certified engineers fiddling with your car.

    2. Don't confuse AWD with invincibility <-- Simple rule - often forgotten.

    3. Once you buy it post some pictures here. We may have seen others like it before, but it gives us something to do on slow days.

Best of luck in your purchase!

Thanks for the response. I hear you on overestimating the power and potential of AWD.

Many moons ago when I was in the military and was visiting the Mercedes Benz plant in Stuttgart, I told this older engineer that I was thinking of trading my 240D in for something with 4-wheel drive.

He says (in a nice thick German accent); Remember, you cannot repeal zee laws of physics, und 4-veel drive iss not 4-veel shtup!

+1 but remember, you have to be able to get through it to worry about stopping, but it does tend to make 1 forget that the stopping (in snow/ice) is more difficult than the starting. Only takes 1 close call/sliding to a stop & abs pulsing to quickly remind you. Dedicated snow & summers R WAY better than All Seasons, but not everyone wants to spend the extra $ or have the room. U R making a great vehicle line choice. Wife LOVES the 2015 Q7 Midnight Blue w/S-line pkg. 21" wheels. VERY expensive tire size w/ limited manufacture options so make sure U check the wheel/tire size. Not many OEM's use this size @ this time so limited supply/demand, higher cost/retail price. Definitely a 1st world problem. Good luck.
