Not that you necessarily care, but team brown delivered my Borla yesterday...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
that I've been waiting for about a month because I ordered it from cardomain.com instead of AWE where I ended up getting it from.

Anyway, I got hooked up with a guy that has a new small shop with a new lift and Hunter Road Force balancer. The guy is going to let me help him install the exhaust tomorrow night and his labor rate is $39.00/hr. I wanted to post this because so many of you guys get great deals on crap and my turn finally came up. Plus I don't have to install my own exhaust on ramps and jack-stands Saturday morning!

    Thanks for reading...

I should be able to capture some sound clips, so I'll give it a try.

I'm pretty geeked up about getting the exhaust put on. The tips look great. I hope I like it.

    I dont care.

Jk, you'll like the exhaust, I'm so happy with my Borla. That is a really good price, just make sure to buy a gasket for where the DP meets the cat.

edit- what part of WI are you in? checkout MNAudi.com, we have a great forum community and its nice to have local/close fellow audi fans.

A blind man once stepped on Chuck Norris' shoe. Chuck replied, "Don't
you know who I am? I'm Chuck Norris!" The mere mention of his name cured
this man blindness. Sadly the first, last, and only thing this man ever
saw, was a fatal roundhouse delivered by Chuck Norris.

    T-minus 5 hours to install...

Yes, I already have the (3) bolts/nuts and new gasket for the DP to cat.

I'm in Manitowoc. It's about 45 miles South of Green Bay and 85 miles North of Milwaukee right on Lake Michigan. I'll check out the site. Thanks.

Well the Borla is on and....IT'S LOUD!!

This thing sounded very quiet when I first started the car. The guy that helped me (or actually did most of the work), thought is was really quiet. But when I drove down the road, wow! It gets really loud around 3,200 - 4,000 rpm under decent acceleration. Much louder than I expected. I only drove the car for about 2 miles so I didn't really test performance or really get a chance to live with it just yet. That'll be tomorrow.

Also, when I got home, my wife commented: "now I can hear you coming" (no comments please...). So she obviously heard me. I wasn't driving too aggresively down my road either.

I don't know if I'm going to like the exhaust or not. I'll see what tomorrow brings...

You're gonna fawkin love it. It's loud, but not obnoxious. 2nd gear is where the Borla shines. I wouldn't trade that 2nd gear WOT for anything.

Oh, and if you decide you dont like it, i'm sure i would enjoy your exhaust :)

I wouldn't call it loud. It can certainly be heard when you start up and at low speeds or when really on it, but when cruising about 40 MPH it disappears and on the freeway when cruising I can't hear it at all. If you were looking for something quiet perhaps the APR is a better choice. I've heard it's barely louder than stock.

i think every non-teen buying an exhaust goes through their doubts..."is it too loud, do i like this??" (except maybe Milltek buyers)

it'll probably grow on you. mine used to be kind of loud, but now, i hardly notice it at all. maybe it got quieter from getting broken in, who knows.

joeya103: You said it exactly. I'm 37 years old. I don't really need to draw attention to myself with a loud car unless it's some sort of hot rod. I don't think my A4 qualifies...

I also think you are correct in saying that it will grow on me. I was happy with the sound on the highway this morning. I drive the interstate every day at about 72-75 mph. The exhaust has a deep full sound at those speeds. It's definately louder than stock, but it's a nice tone, not loud. For that matter once you're at speed, it quiets down nicely and just gives that deep full tone. It's hard not to like that part.

My only reservation with the exhaust is when running through the gears, I get a resonance through the car around 3,200-4,000 rpm where it gets fairly loud (at least to me). I'm not going to complain about it, but it's unexpected. I think the exhaust overall is very nice and I do not regret buying it at all.

One of my engineers drives an '04 STI. He's quite a character and will be certain to have comments on look and sound. If he has any interesting opinions, I will post them up. He usually does...

Also, I was very carefull to mount the exhaust and I have a rattle where the exhaust is hitting the bottom of the car from the middle clamp I'm guessing. I can't believe it, but it's there.

Also as a note, the install took about 1.5 hours total. We took our time and did everything correctly (properly adjusting things). We had one very stubborn bolt, which was of course the difficult one to reach. The install cost me $60.00 from this guy. I can't tell you how happy I was doing this install on a lift as opposed to ramps and jack stands in my garage.

Yeah, give it some time. The first time I drove the car I was suprised at the noise level and wondered a bit if I'd like it in the end as I didn't want a loud exhaust. This is my street car, not my track car, so I wanted it to be comfortable on long drives and such. It has completely grown on me and now I don't even really notice it and wouldn't change a thing about it. Hope the same holds true for you.

Well the STI guy (a.k.a. Jason), just went for a ride with me. He loves it. It's louder than he expected, but he didn't thing it was too loud at all. He loves the tone. He now wants to buy and Audi just to put a Borla on it. I guess that's good right
