PODI Gauges.... buzzing from gauges and inline filters suck. Is this a Joke?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Both needles in my boost and AFR gauges making extremely annoying buzzing sounds (which I'm pretty sure everyone knows about now) and ontop of that, I just purchased a 12pk of inline filters for my boost gauge and these things are utterly worthless. Complete waste of $15. PODI or who over should completely stop manufacturing them to save the world on some plastic pollution because they are pointless. The inline filters actually have a TAPER to the ends of each side of the nipples! WTF?!? Who the fuck would do that? What's the logic? With NO barb(s) or any means of securing the vacuum line onto the nipples (zip ties just slide right off like astroglide), all it takes is one 20psi pull and pop...your boost gauge is now at 0psi and dead. Yay for an immediate vacuum leak!!!

Poor design and stupidly supported by PODI.

Now I'm off to look for some inline filters that actually have barbs on their ends...

    Rant over.

I had this issues years ago and wasted about $10 as well. The best thing is to keep trying and playing around until you find a fitting that actually works.

You can also use inline fuel filters for a lawn mower. They have better micron filtration than the ones podi gives you. Ive been quite upset as far as the quality of the podi unit goes. The column mount came with one of the t8 bolts stripped, stepper motor makes annoying noises, and the boost sender broke within 3 months while running two inline filters.

I don't have any buzzing noise from my podi gauges. I also use the supplied filter for my boost gauge and it works fine even when I'm running over 30psi.

Same here. Most inline gas filters for 2 stroke lawn mowers have decent barbs on them. I bought a box of 5 from a local shop for $5.

I got a fuel filter from oreillys for a few bucks after my podi one split in half thus resulting in the gauge not reading

Podi are cheap as fuck on their filters, and they fuck you on shipping cost, in which is hilarious to hear them try to defend their outrageous shipping prices ($20.00) saying they are not making a profit on shipping.

Also hit them with some hairspray when fitting. If it is good enough for intercooler hoses its good enough for boost gauges

My Podi boost gauge only makes a noticeable noise when I turn the key on to start the car. Other than that, it works fine. As far as the filter goes, use your brain. One drop of super glue on each of the tapered filter ends solves the problem. I have never had an issue..

Don't really want to super glue something that is intended to be replaceable.

Thanks for the fuel filter tip guys! I'll post a vid of my gauges at some point...

I just found this thread and if you find that the air filters are garbage as you have indicated, then send them back to us for a refund. The satisfaction guarantee is provided on all products I sell.

As for who makes the filters? I get them from the same manufacturer that makes them for Greddy.

Winston, the strange thing is that the original inline filter that comes with your gauge came with barbed ends. However, your 6pk/12pk inline filter replacements are not the same and do not have barbed nipples. At this point, I'd rather not waste my time going to the post office to get back $12. My mistake. I'll learn from it.

Just to correct this as $20.00 would not be the shipping cost to send a dozen air filters within the USA. I just looked up an order and the shipping cost to Pennsylvania was $7.30

If I provide screen shots from Endicia, which is a 3rd party shipping provider, that shows the shipping charged to the customer are exactly the same was what we are quoted, would that change your mind about my statement that we don't profit on shipping?

The original air filters I used had barbed ends, however, the filter was directional and element was made of paper. This caused issues when a customer didn't check and installed the filter backwards, then the paper element can get saturated and if not changed out in time the boost pressure would blow the fluid downstream and end up in the sensor as shown here. These pictures were taken from a local B7A4

Even with a new filter installed, and you notice the orientation is correct and reversed from the above pictures, you see that there is condensed PCV fluid in the vacuum line and it blew into and pooled on the bottom of the new filter

While the filters are a preventative measure to address a problem presented by the FSI engine PCV setup, it isn't foolproof.

The microfilters supply now filter better and provide a very clear white -> brown color change so a simple visual check can be performed. This was much more difficult with the original filter due to the color of the paper element.

I see the barbed filter you posted in the eBay link and will look into it and see if it can be a suitable replacement for the Greddy filters I supply now.

I can ship a flat rate box (which the gauge pod fits into) to Afghanistan for $13.xx

Why does it cost $20 to ship something from canada to the US?

My previous ecommerce system was not capable to processing custom shipping quotes for each order prior to checkout.

The best solution was for me to provide an single averaged cost for all orders sent from my shipping center to any point in the US.

The shipping cost was setup like this since I started selling product on AZ 8 years ago and I only increased the cost of the shipping once in that timespan. When we moved to a new ecommerce platform real time shipping quotes were possible.

And that's what we as consumers deserve from the vendors. Accurately reflected shipping costs
