Help HOLE on the bottom of my timing chain housing Pic inside

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So this weekend I'm driving and my car starts to smoke real bad and the low oil light and low oil pressure light(never before seen) pop up. Luckily I was around the corner of my house so I pulled in and filled car with oil only to see all that oil come right back out. Come to find out I had a hole in my Timing Chain Cover where all the oil was leaking out of. I had noticed a small leak coming out from there during the week and had planned to check it this weekend. I know I need a new cover and I'm in process of obtaining one and replacing but what could've caused this???

I don't think the Cam Follower has much to do with what happened. Here is the pic again incase it's not working for some.

Maybe your tensioner went to shit and your chain bitch slapped your cover.

Its an easy replacement. Since you're taking off the cover you should replace the chain and tensioner while you're in there. Trust me, you don't want to take that cover off twice. Do those and replace the cam follower as well while you have the hpfp off. Or else youll just kick yourself later on down the road

I have to tool to lock the cams if you wanna borrow it as well as the polydrive bit

That's exactly what my guess was at first just didn't know how common that was if even possible. Could that cause the cams to have jumped timing and could that have caused valve and piston slap???

It's not super common, but not unheard of. I have a used cover for sale if you get sticker shock at the cost of a new one.

Neither. Most bone yards want to sell an entire working motor: not one that needs a few parts.

I'd be more tempted to try the silicone adhesive I used on the AC adapter I leave outside 24/7/52. Keeps the rain/snow out of that adapter, and stays a bit soft just like RTV.

$150 plus shipping. You will need to swap one of the cam adjuster seal rings from your old cover though as the outer most ring is broken on my cover. They are just plastic rings that slip on and off. You could also buy 3 new rings, but it's like $60 for a set. I can send pictures if you're interested.

Shouldn't be more than $10 to ship. You can see in the picture below that the outer most sealing ring for the cam adjuster is missing. You just need to swap one over from your old housing or buy a new set.

Man I need to take that off and I'm looking for the details, I need to install a new tensioner. Any details on tools needed for a amateur? Anyone else that can point me to the DIY it would be greatly appreciated.

Right now my car sounds like a diesel.
