Car got side swiped - Insurance claim?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Someone side swiped my car and has accepted fault and their insurance is willing to pay for the repairs. My issue is will this get reported on carfax?
It's a small dent and some minor scrapes / scratches on rear fender. Got quoted $750 by the body shop. Carfax doesn't specify what kind of accident it was so if it gets reported i would take a significant hit in value. What would you guys do? or anyway i can avoid it getting reported?

750 is nothing. even if it shows, it will show as a minor repair. If you want that insurance money - its going on the record.

You aren't going to take that significant of a hit from a minor repair. Don't be so over dramatic. Your state may even have a diminished value law which would allow you to get compensated for the difference, but at such a low dollar repair it'll be minuscule.

Well i remember looking at cars for sale and ones with Accidents on them only said accident reported.. Didn't really specify the extent of it.

I've seen carfax reports that actually state "non-structural accident" reported.

Just take pictures before and after the repair, if anyone asks you can provide evidence of what the claim was for and how minor it was

This is a great idea. I'd also keep a copy of the repair order with the photos, so a potential buyer can see everything that was done. I sold the STI a few days after it was done with hail damage repair, and I provided the buyer with a copy of the entire repair order. I just redacted any of my personal information.

A $750 repair is extremely minor. I've traded in two vehicles with accident repairs on Carfax around $1000 and did not lose any value because of that. Qualified appraisers can tell quickly whether it was just a simple paint blend and won't ding you for it unless you want to trade or sell within a year or two of the model year then that could affect it a bit.
