    clutch options for ko4 level?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My current setup is K04s and running the Rs4 clutch kit. I'm going with a new ttv billet flywheel.

So after reading threads I am uncertain which clutch to pair with it.

Ultimately I would like to be able to launch the car a few times a year but also daily drive to work and looking for longevity.

I have 130kms out of Rs4 setup but it's getting weak and was never able to launch it..

Can some of you chime in with your setups and experiences that meet what I'm looking for.

    Thanks!

    clutch options for ko4 level?

I have a south bend stage 3 daily and it has been great so far for 20,000 miles of daily driven use and will hold all the torque you will make on K04's

Stay away from LWFWs unless you like your car sounding like it had heat shields hitting your exhaust.

Downshift or not the benefits do not out weigh the negatives. I don't like to cruise along at 3100 rpm just to keep the chattering down. But I will say this, the chattering did go down since it's been warmer.

My solution for now is to deal with it until I have to get into the transmission. Hopefully I'll never have to get into the trans.

Great info so far.. I have be leaning towards the south bends as they seem premium quality from reviews... is there other clutches of similar lifespan and holding capabilities for less money?

As well have the ttv flywheels been known to chatter? I have had a light weight flywheel before and the chatter is not something I'm interested in again.

Sorry for the alarm but I run the fidanza lwfw. I can't speak to the ttv flywheel but if it's single mass it is probably susceptible to chatter. Every now and then I see a guy on here that claims 0 chatter. Maybe the installation is better? Maybe the flywheel is balanced better?

I know a guy with the ttv lwfw and it does have cause the trans to rattle at idle and under low rpm loads. I would recommend getting a oem replacement from rock auto they are under $300 and good quality. Make sure to specify when ordering your clutch that you are using an oem flywheel or LWFW because the throw out bearings are different between the 2.

vast solid alum flywheel, rs4 pp and a clutch net 6puck Kevlar disc, feels awesome, slight chatter but overall very nice
With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high.

Southbend stage 3 and steel flywheel here. K04 car. Stiffer than stock for sure and engagement is fairly far out in my opinion but great combo.

I've had both the amd clutch and flywheel combo (I believe the amd flywheel is clutchmasters brand) which had very slight chatter at very low rpms. Almost unnoticeable. The ttv flywheel I have now, paired with a oe rs4 clutch chatters much more noticeably. Below 1.8k rpm it's very noticeable, at idle it rattles a little, with ac on it rattles a lot.

I've seen many people who experience little to no chatter/rattle with the ttv flywheel, but in my case, there's definite chatter and rattle. Also when you start the car, it sounds almost like sharpening a long knife. Like a metalic "schinggg" right as the motor fires up. Hard to describe, but you'll notice it immediately.

You have a Fidanza. That flywheel is waaaaay to light, and also prone to tone ring failure. I have a 15lb solid steel flywheel, and there's really not much chatter to speak of unless you are lugging it around at 1k-1.5k, like 2nd gear start from a stop. That said, I would prefer something a bit heavier to offset RPM drop while cruising. I think 18lb is the sweet spot - pretty sure that's the weight of the TTV flywheel.

It's all in how you drive. I like a LWFW - I downshift often and really like hitting the mountain passes near me. Quicker downshift/rev-match in tight corners makes a big difference.

I have a Southbend Stage3 Endurance with OFE disc (not the Kevlar typically supplied in the kit). It's great. Make sure you step up to Stg3 because the PP changes at that level. The Stg2 and lower kits use a modified stock pressure plate. Stg3 up is a SACHs Motorsport pressure plate. The 2 types of pressure plate are completely separate design.

I think I saw that Ringer Racing also offers a SACHs Motorsport pressure plate in their kit, and are priced well below Southbend. I would get in contact with Ringer Racing to confirm if I were to go that route. That said, you can't go wrong with Southbend - yea they cost more, but the customer service may be worth the premium. Southbend also has a rebuild program, something like $300 to completely refresh your kit when the time comes, iirc.

Yea true you have a great point. It is 12.5 lbs... and I do not have any other experience with LWFW's so I was generalizing. Its nice to know there are other viable lwfw options out there!
