Thinking about buying a 2012 Q5 any tips?

I sold my B7 S4 Avant and got a 2015 Subaru ForesterXT. While the Subie is a good car it's not the same as I'm used to.
Also the DIT engine has carbon problems and mine's been in my Subaru dealer for over a month now.
I still don't know if I need a new engine at just 39k miles.

So I'm considering getting back into Audi and the Q5 looks like it suits my needs.
I want a facelift model that won't break the bank so I'm looking at 2012's.
Is a premium plus trim worth the extra cost and how is the car overall?
I'd rather have the more powerful 3.2 engine as well.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Premium Plus, and B&O audio are worth the cost, IMO.

I really enjoyed my 2012 3.2. The only real grumble I had was with the transmission shift points. The car and I would often disagree about when 1-2 and 2-3 shifts should occur, particularly on uphill starts and climbs. Compared to my '08 A4 Avant with the same drivetrain, you could definitely feel the extra weight of the Q.

Facelift is MY2013, not 2012.

Facelifted V6 cars got the 8-speed ZF. Either engine (2.0T or 3.0T) with the 8-speed ZF is better than the 3.2 6AT powertrain.

bummer about the subie. anyway, 2012 is pre-facelift and be mindful of carbon buildup in the 3.2


my advice- look for Jerry's Q5 3.0T and buy that!

First off, the facelifts began in 2013. Second, the 3.2 is not "the more powerful engine." In stock form, they're about the same, but you're capped with the NA 3.2, while you can do a lot more with the 2.0T. You can read more about it in this thread:

Premium+ is the middle of the road in trim packages, and probably the best cost-wise. Take your time and find the right one for you. Also, there should be a few SQ5's beginning to appear in the used sector, so that might also be a consideration for you depending on your budget. Good luck!

I bought a 2012 2.0t Q5 a little over a year ago. it's a premium plus and had all the options i wanted. 21,000 miles later I'm still loving and plan on driving it for many more years! For me even though the 3.2 has about 50 more hp i still wanted the 2.0t for the zf 8 spd tranny and gas mileage.
