No ac, Econ light not on what to do

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello. So my ac is blowing out warm air. I've tested everything with vagcom and its all good. My refrigerant pressure is 5 bar which to my knowledge is good but for some reason I cannot get cold air and I live in Georgia where it's super hot already. Any help on where to start and what to do?

Just click your Econ button off... I turn mine on from time to time and all I have to do is press it to turn it off. Econ just brings air in from outside

It doesn't get cold regardless of whether or not the Econ is on or off.

I'm going though the same thing right now in NC. Sorry to tell , but you will need a new compressor.

Your AC compressor is likely shot. Since you have pressure in the refrigerant system, the ECON button isn't stuck on, and there likely are no fault codes in the 08-HVAC module then I am willing to bet that you need a new AC compressor, receiver drier, orifice tube, and o-ring seals.

How many miles do you have? There was a running joke that the B6/7 S4 AC compressors failed every 60K miles like clockwork at one of the dealerships that I worked at.

Me too and add check the pressure sensor on the side of the condenser. The codes should conform the problem for you.

Check the ac high pressure switch. If I remember correctly I had my headlight removed when I noticed it was leaking. My ac wouldn't get cold and the econ button wouldn't turn off. I refilled the ac system and heard the hissing sound where it was leaking through the ac pressure switch. It is a much cheaper fix as it cost me under $70 for that little piece.

My ECON light was stuck on. Scan for codes in the HVAC module. If you see G65 High Pressure Sensor fail you might get lucky and have a bad sensor. I used a can of Freon that had a pressure gauge on it from Walmart. Pressure was low. Started filling the system and heard hissing from the driver side bumper which happens to be where the high pressure sensor is located. I removed the electrical connector from the sensor and it started leaking Freon. Installed new sensor. Refilled system. Cleared code. AC is nice and cold now. No more ECON light.

I might take you up on that, is there any chance that a bad engine coolant temp sensor could cause the compressor to not engage? There's no leaks and no codes for the pressure sensor. The only code I'm getting is for the ect sensor. I got under my car and the compressor is not seized up, it's just not spinning. I can spin it with a long screw driver when the cars running and the the drive shaft in it sits nice and tight from what I can see

If the compressor is not spinning, something is wrong. That driveshaft should be spinning any time the engine is running. If it's not moving at all, then it possibly sheared off.

I guess I'll go ahead and chime in here as well. I bought my B6 at ~150k, and the AC didn't work when I got it. I took it to a shop to have them try to recharge it, and they said the refrigerant was spraying out from the compressor. I'm getting ready to pull my core support off and take care of some other maintenance things, and I thought I might as well take a peek at my compressor while I'm in there. I'm wondering if any of you guys know what I should be looking at in particular? And is there a way I can actually test for leaks at home without the motor/compressor running? I scanned it a couple weeks ago, and the fault I got for the AC system was:

    00819 - High Pressure Sensor (G65)
    07-10 - Signal too Low - Intermittent

Are there any common leak spots on these systems? Or is it pretty much a crapshoot?

Mine was leaking through the high pressure sensor. Same with black01s4's car. If you still have some pressure in the system you can try disconnecting the electrical connector from the sensor and see if pressure bleeds out from the back of the sensor. Should be able to hear and smell it.

Ok, one more question. I'm guessing that since the pressure switch is detecting low pressure, that my compressor won't be running. If I just start my car and check, will there even be a way to tell if that switch is bad? Or is that something that needs to be checked when trying to refill the system? If so, would it be possible/safe to hook my air compressor up to the condenser and check that way? Just wanna make sure I don't end up with more problems than I start with.

I'm not sure with a compressor. I found the leak by adding some Freon; with a can which had a pressure gauge on it from Walmart. Showed I had no pressure. Started filling to the recommended amount and heard the hissing. Removed the connector from the sensor and I believe the rest of the Freon leaked out from the back of the sensor. I did it with the A/C on but engine off.

Yeah, the system is under some pressure even when off, but if you've had a leak for a while it's probably not anymore.

So my driveshaft was sheared off. The new one sits too far in the gear when I put the new compressor and shaft on. Is there a way to fix this?
