2016 S6 - Dealer Trade or Road Trip?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Looking for some recommendations on buying a 2016 S6. I found one optioned exactly the way I want (Prestige, Sport, Black Optic, Driver Assist). The problem is it's 300 miles away (4 hours by car). Will I be any better off dealing directly with that dealer and taking a road trip, or going 5 miles to my local dealer and let them work out a dealer trade?

I haven't talked to anyone yet, just internet searches. Any thoughts are appreciated.

you can try talking to both, the dealer with the car can choose not to trade the car to your closest dealer. so if you're serious about it I would just cover your bases and contact both dealers. gl.

I would road trip it back. Sort out everything, and based on your approval when you get down there, agree to buy the car.

That is a short trip to get a car. A couple factors do come into play. What is your relationship with the local dealer. If you have a good one that might be the place to go as they will be servicing the car.
I would not inform the dealer that is out of town where you are from. If they know you are interested in the car they may refuse to trade it to the local dealer. I have had that happen in the past but not with
Audi. I always find it is much easier to make a deal with the shop that actually has the car. There is more cost to have it brought down Sometimes they flat bed them- sometimes they have someone drive down.
I don't want some dumb skull putting the first 300 miles on my cars which is during the crucial break in period. I am a strong believer is breaking them in hard like you plan to drive and getting the rings properly seated.
Mission accomplished on my new S6 after 1400 miles in under 18 hours. They are not many of these cars around so I would not be waiting around long as they seem to move fast. Nice car you are looking at I really like the build.
My car is Premium plus less the driver assist pkg that I would have gotten if it was on the car. So far I love mine good luck. Nothing like a 300 mile shake down cruise in your new car.

    +1

100% take the road trip. Go look at the car in person, make sure you like it as much in real time as you do online. I took delivery of my (U.S. spec) MY 16 S6 more than 4 hrs away on the opposite side of Germany and was happy to do it, just have all your ducks in a row, i.e., insurance, financing etc, the trip home is going to be awesome!!

Road trip. 4 hours is nothing. Dealer trade means one of the high school attendants gets to go on a wild road trip in your car.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I've reached out to the dealer that has the car, hopefully I can work a deal before taking a trip!

On another note, I now realize this makes a test drive and trade a little more complicated...
