    Well...She's Going Under the Knife

It's been many months since she was irreparably damaged by acorns without paint work, but the time has come...

Though I hated the idea of not having original paint anymore, I decided that if paint was to be done that she deserved every scratch and dent removed. While I was at it, non-rippled door lowers, Euro bumpers, and Ti conversion. I'm sure I'm going to be speechless when she's back.

He's to be taking progress pictures of it all as she will be stripped bare to have a proper job done and to prove that she was never wrecked or in an accident.

Pics to come when I get them.

The hood needed to get replaced as it was peened up badly, the trunk lip took a good hit, and the roof saw a few. The whole upper end of the car would've needed paint and blending down.
It made more sense to go over everything than to spend many hours trying to blend it all in.

are you replacing the trim for Ti conversion? if so, should of had them remove the trim before painting the car.

I'll do that at some other point, he didn't want to remove it so I let it be.

It's not that big of a deal to do on its own, and I have it vinyl wrapped for now.

Not removing the trim prior to painting is a big mistake. The clear will peel in the not too distant future, there won't be enough coated right at and under the trim.

i think there is a tiny gap that will allow some spray to go further inside the edge, at least for the roof/arch trim, the door trim is another story. if it were my car i definitely would have them remove the trim before painting.. the painter didn't want to remove it because he probably knows, or realizes, it's a PITA to do..

The last sentence is the real reason lol. You're right about the top gap, that won't cause any issues, however the bottom window trim is where the clear won't have enough of a gap to allow a proper coat. Under a year and it will be chipping or peeling.

It should be noted that these pictures are of one of the stages of prep. He's going into the door sills with paint so I'm sure the door lower window trim will be removed. Also, I was speaking about the rear quarter windows he didn't want to remove.
He took apart most of the car and its interior to do this, don't see why he would've not went that much farther.
As the most highly recommended and used for top notch work, I trust him.

to remove the door trim, the entire door has to be taken apart, even the window/track iirc.. just a fyi.

Well I spoke to him and he said he was able to get the job done involving the window trim-thankfully I won't have to worry anymore.
