Need advice for pricing on this clean 2001 S4 with "rebuilt" title

I want to go take a look at this 2001 S4 that is about 45 mins from me, but i want to make sure i don't overpay out of excitement or anything lol. First i have owned 4 B5 S4's in the past but all have been clean titles. So i don't know how to value or price rebuilt titles. I sold my last 2001.5 last August which i kind of regret now. It was ULTRA clean, up to date with parts, with just a stage 2 tune and a cat back. It was a great scoot around town errand car, or just cruise to the gym on the weekend. It has 200k but you would think it had half the miles it was that clean. I said i may buy another if the price was right, wouldn't go out of my way again, been there at least 4 times.

Anyway i found this 2001 brilliant black on CL for $3,500. Now it is a triptronic, but it has to be so i can share it with my fiance which is fine with me. The car is basically going to be used to take my kid back and forth to baseball practice and games, take the dog to the dog park on the weekends. Home depot trips, or just a spare car in general. All while retaining the cool dad effect . Plus it will be easier to toss things in and out of it and not worry if i scratch it or getting my B8 S5 coupe dirty.

He is a mechanic and did most of the work himself. Timing belt has been done, the infamous Torque converter has been fixed with a new one and seal, entire trans replaced with a lower 85k unit. New brakes, rotors, also the stock K03's were replaced a bit ago with another good condition used set, car comes with the stock set of k03's he pulled as well. The wheels on it now are ugly imo, they AMG Mercedes BUT he does have two sets of the stock 17" avus that comes with the car. I will put those on to retain the stock clean look. JUST inspected not a single dash light. Car has a small hole in the passenger side front bumper as someone backed into him at Lowes.

Now.... For what i am using the car for i dont mind the rebuilt title if the price is right. However i need to feel comfortable if i feel bored of the car in a year or no longer want it i need to be able to get a decent amount back. Most people will be weird with a rebuilt title which is understandable. Over a "call" i got him down to $3000 he said he was firm there. I was thinking $2500 is a realistic price. What do you guys think? I mean its up to snuff parts wise which saves me buying a similar clean title one that ill need to replace some things off the jump.

This is my S4 we used as a "beater/spare car" that i should have kept :(

I could also take that $3,000 and go use that on a down payment on a nice B8 S4 3.0T supercharged for around $25,000 . AND have a really nice "spare" care . But i don't know if i want another car payment. I enjoy the freedom of going on vacations etc and not being tied down by another car payment etc. Plus when you have a 11 year old who asks you for $350 baseball bats for baseball doesn't help

I say if you really miss the B5 then do it. Regardless of the salvage title it will always be worth something, and when you're down to $3000 for an S4 you cant really lose "too" much. If you see yourself keeping it for awhile then just keep up with the maintenance and enjoy it. The smile it will put on your face may be well worth the $3000 right there. It beats these people I see buying new Audis off the lot and a year later they sell it for 55k and post a picture of the 65k window sticker. Those make me cringe, but then again I am just a middle class American stretching the dollar. Keep us posted on what you decide and good luck!

Thanks I agree. I never buy brand new. Ended up with my 2010 S5 because they gave me MUCH more than I thought for trade on my 07 Hummer H3 which was the prior DD. But I set myself up nice being I currently owe a few grand less than even the "trade in" average price.

But I do miss my B5, just cruising in it on the weekend as a spare car. It's a timeless design and I always got complements on mine. Only had a stage 2 tune and a cat back. It make a great spare car. I never complained when I has to use it :)
