DSG pissing me off - false neutrals and excruciatingly slow downshifts

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I dealt with false neutrals on my 2012 GTI for 90k miles, wasn't too big of a deal, but 6000 miles in on my S3 has been bad.
The false neutrals happen when I decel from, say, 40mph to 5ish and then hit the gas again. It's like the car doesn't know what the F to do, go to first or second gear??? It hangs for what seems like an eternity, meanwhile I've got an 18 wheeler closing in on me cause my car won't go.

The other issue is sometimes manual downshifts (while in D) can take 1-2-3 seconds.

Obviously the car is under warranty and I can schedule an appt, but we all know the tech won't be able to replicate the issue cause that's just how it goes. I won't be modding my car because, worst case, these symptoms could be early signs of transmission trouble.

    Thoughts?
    Thanks

I eventually will. The problem is the randomness of the issues.

Insist this be fixed, and leave your car with the dealer. In my M3 I wasn't able to reproduce clutch shuddering on a drive with the shop foreman, and he said "My guys need work, we'll get you a new clutch". :) If you insist the problem exists even if you aren't able to reproduce, they might just replace something for you (assuming it would be clear what part might be causing that). Threaten lemon law if they don't respond.

dont threaten lemon law , thats dumb and will make them less willing to help you especially if you cant replicate the problem.

Yep, same happens on my car. Took it to the dealer, they kept the car overnight, drove more than 75 miles and, of course, the answer is "everything's perfect ."

Both my prior and current A3 hesitate for about half a second to a second when you gently decelerate to about 5-10mph and then suddenly press the gas pedal again, for example, when the light changes to green. I think that is just the DSG taking a second to react.

yep, dsg is slow in those conditions, and it doesn't react to sudden changes in throttle well. needs to be eased into like you're driving a manual.

I get that DSG, by nature, is slow with the sudden changes in throttle after a decel, but it is particularly slow compared to my GTI. Hell, just driving at constant speed and trying to get dsg to kick down a gear is a chore and when it does decide to shift, it is not a quick shift.

Is anybody seeing horribly long manual downshifts while coasting? I'll coast while approaching a red light and manually downshift and it takes as long as three seconds to drop one gear. This problem is very random.

I'm gonna schedule an appt...can't wait for the free brillo pad car wash that I will have specifically declined...

I accidentally had my car in D the other day and noticed that shifts are much slower than when the car is in S. I always have the car in S/Manual and downshifts when off the throttle are instantaneous. If you're on the throttle a bit sometimes they are slower since the car was predicting an upshift, but off throttle it assumes you're going to be downshifting so they are always instant.

No issues here, but I have a 2016. Not sure if that makes a difference.

lol, I got nabbed by this last Tuesday, was too lazy to hang my "Please DO NOT Wash" sign which actually has worked. When you see thin streaks of wet mud on your paint and windows, they are using the same dirty ass rag on every car. horrid car wash practices.
