    EBC or Hawk

Looking for same if not quicker bite than stock/Pageant pads, but more oomph without having to stomp the pedal. The Textars are showing their weakness now that the snow is gone and I'm able to cruise. Between the two, who's got what I'm looking for EBC or Hawk if they even apply. Don't care about dust. Do care about my new daily stock rotors being torn up. Speed(breaking) is what I'm after. I won't touch Akebonono's.

I prefer Hawk HPS, but they faded recently for me under some abuse auto crossing, which is surprising since its such a short cycle time. I have EBC yellows front and rear to install and a set of blues for the fronts to try out since that is what faded most likely. I don't have any experience with the yellow stuff yet, but I did put them on my wife's jeep. They do have a tendency to squeal but do have good bite. If you just do spirited driving every once in a while with no track time or anything, I would recommend Hawk HPS.

I have run Hawk pads on both my B6 and now my B7. They have a great initial bite and good stopping power. Even under wet conditions the grab is nice. Ive done a few track sessions on them without any fading like Der Konig mentioned. But again, every situation is not the same. If youre just doing city driving with some heavy spirited driving mixed in here and there, Id say go with the Hawks and youll be happy. A few people I know run the EBC pads and their biggest gripe is that the pads need warming up.

I have EBC on my Avant right now and they do seem to need a bit of "warming up" first. I have Hawk pads on my F250 diesel and they do a great job. I'll go back to Hawk pads once the EBC's wear out.

One of the best permanent & inexpensive brake upgrades would be to replace the OEM rubber lines with some braided stainless. I haven't done mine yet but now that summer is coming, it's on my list of needed upgrades.

I've never heard of the Tyrolsport kit. How difficult do you say it would be to install?

Not too bad. The hardest/most annoying part is dealing with the retaining clips. Overall though install mine took maybe an hour or so including jacking the car and removing the wheels.

I am using Akebono's now. Plenty of life left, however they have chewed up my rotors. I think I am set on Hawk HPS and still trying to decide on rotors. Tyrolsport Caliper Stiffening kit looks like an option as well. Any rotor recommendations?

So looks like Hawks it is. These Textars have got to go. Really was looking to try the Yellow stuff, but I guess it's true that they have to be warmed up. Don't know if the weather I'm in would be suitable for that. Hopefully I won't get any fade like Der konig experienced.

I've run EBC slotted rotors and red stuff pads for the last ~2 years/12,000 miles and love mine. Braking is much much better than stock, pads are silent, minimal brake dust, and they even sustained 2 full track days and I can hardly tell the pads have been worn. They tend to bite harder as they get hotter, which I kind of like. My car's 60-0 braking distance has been reduced to 104 ft and it stops nearly a car length shorter than my buddy's 2015 Fiesta ST... I will definitely be sticking with EBC.

I have EBC yellows and im gonna switch to reds, they do squeal and need a few stops on old days to start biting properly. Definitely more 70% race 30% street kinda pad.

If you go EBC id go with the reds

Also changed the lines, and fluid.

How did you like the reds. I have my yellows on my 17z and they stop great but squeal and need a little temp in them.

Any noise? How is the bite, is it progressive or does it ramp up fast

I have zero complaints with EBC Redstuff pads. I didn't experience any noise, and even in Colorado/Wyoming winters, they stopped right after startup no warm-up needed. And the bite is nothing drastic. I'd say it's still progressive, but if you need them to get you to 0mph fast, they are up to the task.
