    2015 CPO b8.5 s4 or 2017 a4 b9

Which one would you choose...........15 CPO s4 or 2017 a4 premium plus

Since I have joined this forum (which i love btw) I have changed ideas 3-4 times now.........

I set my budget at $50k and both these options work unless somebody wants to dispute that claim for me.

I choose the '15 CPO S4 for the juicy 3.0L Supercharged V6. I am not liking the interior and dash design of the B9 A4. At the end of the day, it is all up to you. No one can tell you how to decide your choice. I suggest listing out the pros and cons of both car choices and present them here for feedback. That, I believe, is a better way of helping you decide which one to buy.

If you are all about driving, the 3.0T in the S4 will likely be the better fit out of the two cars. If you are all about the tech toys, the 2.0T will likely be sufficient. I drove the 3.0T AT8 in the 2012 A6 which was a heavy car but still pretty fast. I don't need pretty fast most of the time and the 2.0T DSG7 did bother me when I test drove the car. But I wanted ACC, HUD, VC, MIB MMI and other things that are exclusive to the B9 for now, so the B8 was never an option for me.

expand on what you are looking for.
The A4 and S4 are completely different cars. TBH I am thinking a chipped B9 A4 will give a stock B8.5 S4 a good run

I had a B8.5 and pick up the B9 upon release, the B8.5 feels soo outdated, compared to the new one.

I was shopping a B8.5 S4 through March then saw the A4 and thought the exact same thing. This is a real refresh even though the exterior isn't drastically different.

It really comes down to High Tech Interior vs. Performance and whether you'd take more pride in owning the new model or the /S model.

It really comes down to what you prefer in a car. A B8.5 S4 would definitely be more fun to drive, but in a B9 A4 you would get newer features/technology. Personally, I'd rather have the B8.5 S4...but I may be biased lol, but either way I don't think either one will be a bad decision.

You want newest tech go B9 A4, you want fun to drive car with one of the best engines Audi has made, go B8.5 S4

I did exactly that, grabbed a 13 CPO S4, and I absolutely love the S4. Very fun and comfortable car.

I just have to say that having the B9 for more than 2 weeks now I can definitively say that it is nothing like the B8.5, and normal people can tell, the road presence is downright sexy. I have never been in a car that gets rubberneckers more than this one (mainly from S4, S3 and 340i owners) but everyone stops to look at my car, no exaggeration. It's kinda shocking, the way it shows itself on the road is unparalleled. May be the newness but it's still fun to see. My plan is to sell this next summer for an S4, or wait for the next model year if they do what the did with my B8 giving the 2010 a large amount more functionality.

The attention is fun but its purely from the newness. Not that the B9 isn't a great looking car, it is, but the exterior isn't much different than the B8.5 or new A6. I'm sure most of the rubbernecking is from enthusiasts trying to catch a look at the B9 in person. Once they're everywhere by this summer/fall it will go away. I saw my first B9 'on the road' last week, but it was a base model without LEDs and had tiny wheels which didn't do it any justice.

The plan to move to a B9 S4 is a good one.

Yeah I get that, but I have to say, aside from similar door inserts the cabin bears almost no similarities to the B8.5 that I had.

The B9 is very beautiful (Mom in law just got one) inside and feels very very nice. The seats are super comfortable, and I like the placement of the side view mirrors - it provides a small gap that lets me see the road a bit better when turning left, as strange as that sounds. That being said, I would still get my S4 over the B9 A4 because racecar. Oh, and manual tranny lol. The B9 S4 might tempt, but I'll have to see the specs - and get over the need for MT6.

So, do you want fancy gadgets, a more luxury feel? Get the B9 A4.

Do you want performance and a sport/luxury feel? Get the B8.5 S4.

If you want the gadgets AND the performance then wait on the B9 S4. Or you could pick up the RS3 coming out this fall. That thing is pure beast!

    Good luck!

This is the most up-to-date (11 Apr) info I can find on the RS3:

Great stuff, if only I liked smaller cars.

That's the crux. I like smaller cars so the RS3 is tempting. Our dealership SA told me he got to look at the new RS3 at some training. Said we're supposed to start having access to ordering end of the year. /shrug who knows.

SO many good points in here. With all said and said, I think I am going to wait it out a bit. See what the 2017 S4 has to offer (when it hits the dealers) and test drive the B9 A4. By the time 2017 is actually upon us, I can still sell my 2013 S4 for a good price.

Side note, the more I look at the new A4 the more I see a VW, anyone else notice that? I know, I know same company blah, blah. To be fair I get a tad pissed when I see the Silver Passat commercial with the dad driving, looks like mine a bit, but half the price. I know, I know its a VW with a 1.8L engine etc. Anyway...

Thanks for all your input!!!! Have a great weekend!!

Sat in a A4. Was very impressed with the comfort of the seats. Wished I took a test drive but had already signed paperwork on 2016 S4 lease.

    I would go with B8.5 S4.
I have B8 S4 and may trade in for '15 at good price, wait few years and then pick up B9 once the kinks are worked out, or the RS4 if it's released here.

You should be able to find a new '16 S4 for ~$50k, which I would do over a '15 CPO. You might end up being a beta tester if you buy the B9 A4, whereas the bugs are pretty worked out in the B8.5 S4.

    If I were in your shoes: B8.5 S4 > B9 A4

Let other people deal with the bugs in the B9s for a couple years, and then trade up to a B9.5 S4.

If you like the new gadgets and interior than the A4, if you love to drive than the B8.5 S4 if you love both wait for the new B9 S4.
