Dual Pulley (DA + 1327 ft) --> [email protected]

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know this is the S4 forum, but the S5 forum rarely sees talks about speed enhancing items...

I made plans with a buddy of mine to head out to the track tonight, as the forecast earlier this week was supposed to be mid-upper 60's temp and low humidity as a cold jet stream was predicted to dive down into FL with DA's near 100-200feet, but it never happened, and it doesn't look like it will happen again until Dec-Jan (but "possibly" this Saturday morning, we will see, but I'm not holding my breath!).

As such, the conditions were as follows --> 75F, 67% humidity, 29.94Hg pressure, track elevation 50ft. Effective density altitude of 1327 feet, not bad, not also not ideal. Track prep was good, but got worse as the night progressed and humidity rose as temps dropped.

    Mods:
GIAC Stage II ECU (version 2, RACE file)
GIAC TCU file (4,500rpm launch control)
    AWE-tuning pulley
    JHM Overdrive crank pulley
    CW Pro (5-1 setting)
    aFe Pro air filter
    034Motorsports TBB
    Airbox box
    X-pipe mod

    Wheels/tires: Stock OEM 19" rotor wheels (S5), 255/35/19 PSS set to 39f/38r.

Fuel: slightly under 1/2 tank of my usual 93/E85 mix

    Weight reduction: spare tire/jack removed.

I'll get the slip uploaded, but I want to attempt again Saturday morning during test-n-tune where the forecast humidity may be 40% along with low 60's temps (DA closer to 400) before uploading it to the site.

    R/T .343
    60' 1.607 (<----wow!)
    330 4.726
    1/8 7.338
    MPH 95.06
    1000 9.573
    1/4 11.461
    MPH 119.56

My best trap of the night was 119.93mph, so close to reaching that 120.xx mark! I'm happy with my 60ft time, now if the weather would just be cooler for me. It does make me currently #3 on the stock S/C 1/4mile list though.

For reference, I ran [email protected] prior to having a dual-pulley set-up, however that was run in more favorable 368 feet density altitude.

Your running the CW and GIAC together. Interesting.

Tom (Panzer), told me about your car and your goals to run 10's.

Tom's a great guy, he'll be installing the first piece of my cooling: the AWE divorce cooling separator.

I'm not getting anywhere with my tuner and writing a dual-pulley file with them backed up with projects, so I'm improvising temporarily and digging back to my N54 day's and Mike (bhvdr) for planting the seed, I went ahead and started testing the combination. So far, so good logging it the past two weeks. The only reserve I have is the rough shifting and hesitation post-shift at certain throttle settings, which can be seen in logs as timing corrections (up to 5 degrees but quickly drops back to o) that last for a few rpm in the log post-upshift that others running CW-only have mentioned in past threads. The solution would be to crank down the settings on the CW unit and reset the ecu, however I have not the opportunity to do so.

Sub to your AWE divorce cooling separator updates.

would you do some IAT logging for this upgrade?

It looks like your plan has worked with the CW Loe.

If you get the right conditions your time should be pretty amazing :)

Yes, i'll be doing tons pre & post AWE coldfront reservoir using a mix of G12 fluid + redline water wetter should see some positive results, if not exactly as good as the full AWE coldfront system, but at least better than a non-divorced system for my needs.

short-term yes, I'm still reserved on the long-term affects of using the CW, but thats my risk (and I don't recommend anyone else using this route just yet). Knowing the sensor that is manipulates and that it still allows the ECU to bypass when needed, I don't foresee issues in terms of safety, but you never know.

I hope the right conditions comes up soon, or it'll be a LONG year for me lol

Nice work so far Loe. I'm guessing you have an 11.2 in you in a better DA. It'd be interesting to compare CW and non CW logs at the shift points if you ever get a chance. I dont usually log shifts that much. Good luck SAT man.

Nice pass brotha! You need some lightweight wheels, but the pss's are hooking for sure! I think with a good da and lighter wheels, you'll crack a 11.2x @ 120.xx

We're you getting any hesitation or weird shifting in that pass?

Both actually, particularly on the 2-3rd upshift. Less so on the 3-4th upshift. I dialed back the CW this morning prior to coming into work, seems smoother but ill have to log to make sure. Others have said it cured after they disconnected the battery for a few hours, not sure i want to go that route just yet as I hate having to reset everything.

Nice passes. Too bad on the DA. The dual pulley really does make for some killer 60' times. That's pretty impressive for no LW mods.

I love 1/8 trap speeds . With quattro, dual-pulley will hold its own vs faster cars, especially those that enjoy street light to street light racing in the unknown areas of Mexico.

I use this as a guide for all of my fills --> http://www.intercepteft.com/calc.html

7.1 gallons is way too much for my fuel system. It truly depends on the conditions your car is exposed to. For instance, some have ran up to 50% without issues, mine can't do that.

Alright. Maybe S5s have a different size fuel tank. At 16 gallons, 7.1 gallons E85 results in 37.7% total E content.

When I use the calculator (using 16.1 gallons as the total tank size) 7.1 gallons of e85 comes to 43.1% ethanol content. You have to account for pump fuel having 10% if your area contains ethanol in it (mine does).

Also have to take into account that most e85 is not truly e85. The station by my house is testing out at ~e74.

I have an e85 tester for this reason. No one at the gas station knows when they are switching back to E85 from E70 either. It's still pretty cold in East PA

Well shit you might have 11.1x in that thing after you iron out he shifting issues. I know I lost .1-.2 when I had a 1-2 hangup so I would expect the same for you. I know it's more money, but you might want to hit up tony@epl for an actual stage 3 custom 93/e85 tune...how much is that 10.9x worth lol

Yes it definitely does, and it's noticeable on the street in terms of drivability. If you are still looking, I would actually try S4Matty's new OD pulley. Between his testings, and Primetime's track about to open up after the winter weather clears, and others like Grumpy now fully E85 on stage 2, we are going to be seeing some competitive times this year. If I do make a record run, I am willing to bet that it will be a short run because of the upcoming new items.

Thanks man, and I must say you are correct about traction issues on the street. I have PSS's with less than 1000 miles on them and anything over 50% throttle my TCS kicks in hampering acceleration. I sometimes get that "steering lock" sensation (where it refuses to self-center) similar to a FWD-only powered car when accelerating briskly around a tight turn, definitely was not there when stock

Which one is that? I've been lucky with mine being tested in the past at 83-86% at the Citgo in Sarasota. Do you ever come down to Bradenton Motorsports with the Tampa Audi Sports club? They are wonderful people and it's always fun!

I do agree on the .1 second loss. Earlier this year, I would occasionally get a 3-4 shift hesitation at WOT, not really a lag, but more of a "I'm not sure what I'm going to do, pause, then shift" instead of one seamless 3-4 clutch swap. I would see my 60 ft times, 330 ft times all similar, the 1/8mile and ET's same, but my 1000ft time rise (right where the 3-4 upshift happens), effectively lowering my 1/4 mile/ET by .05-.1 and .5-1mph lower. I'm hoping a TCU reflash will cure that, but I'm waiting for after my 35K service and heading to my local GIAC dealer forthe reflash and to raise my LC limitations to what GIAC describes as" beyond what you can physically reach." The descriptor sounds good in my book! My count is at 185, so I only get 15 more passes today (Saturday) before the LC limit is reached

I've thought about contacting tony@epl, I did have his stage I which I thoroughly enjoyed. But I want to utilize the GIAC as long as I can, especially since I'm considering the B9 S5 in a year/year and a half.

Both the RaceTrac and Thortons in Westchase are both in the mid 70%. I tested fuel at RaceTrac and my friend tested the fuel at Thortons. I would love to see 83-86%. I haven't been down Bradenton yet, but a bunch of guys from ASOT usually head down that way. I am definitely going to have to make the trip now that my car is setup.
