    DBV2 2012 Ibis White A4 Build Thread

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So as I've been meaning to start this build thread, I've done a few mods to my car since my delivery March 11, 2016.

I purchased a 2012 A4 in Ibis White Premium CPO from a local Audi dealership near me. The car came with 74,000 kms with a CPO extended warranty till 160k or 2018, whichever comes first. I then purchased extended Audi Care Platinum until 200k or 2023. Its safe to say I am fully covered for the term of my finance and it'll be worry free.

I have been an VAG Group enthusit since my father gifted me my first car when I was 17, a 1985 Volkswagen Golf 1.6 non turbo I've had the itch ever since. Having owned a couple Audi's in the past, a 90Q and a 100Q, this B8A4 is my dabble into a real luxury sedan.

When I signed the bill of sale and took ownership of my B8A4!

I took her home and got to a little quick hand detail. Looking pretty good, but its a cell phone picture. I was a bit upset I was not given the option to change out the wheels to another OEM option at the dealer, I was told CPO had to leave the lot a certain way. Nevertheless, wheels will be in the works soon enough.

The very first "mod" I did was get the car tinted. I have this thing where I do not like people seeing me in my car. I mean, I'd like to pick my nose in privacy!
    25% front/5% back&rear

After joining this board and looking at some of the DIY and build threads of other member's cars, I got an idea of what I wanted to do to mine. I right away ordered an eBay grille from the same seller as the DIY thread for grille install. I opted for this grille as I will always run my plate the way its supposed to be mounted. The police in the Toronto area aren't always the nicest, so less attention is best.

So we got to installing it about a week or so ago. My mechanic wanted a set of Morimoto Projectors for his B6 A4 retrofit that I had no use for, so we traded my parts for his labour!

As some of you already know, I had some wheel fitments issues with a set of A8 wheels I had picked up off of kijiji. I regret slightly not getting them bored out to fit, but I walked away with a good profit to warrant the sale.

I some how managed to get my dealer to throw in a free set of rotors and pads in the rear when I went in to get some warranty work done. My mech and I were doing some VAGCOM coding when he told me I had a blower motor flapper failure. I believe so strongly in warranty, I got them replaced, the rotors, and somehow got an engine air filter and cabin air filter parts thrown in for free. So I installed them myself, ahead of my scheduled interval. I purchased a few oil filters as I plan to do my own oil changes, or have my mech do it. I'm not really interested in paying $145 plus taxes on an oil change.

So I then went searching and found that a magnetic oil drain plug would be beneficial. I also order a set of Morimoto 6500k XB D3S bulbs, wasn't digging the bland OEM white.

    So I got to installing!

    Morimoto

    OEM

    Bad photo but much brighter.

Which brings me to today, and my most recent mod. An Ali Express carbon fibre front valance "lip".. Its a real carbon fibre valance cover. The price was AMAZING, and the fitment was bang on.

So I prepped both the cover and the bumper for installation. I used rubbing alcohol to degrease the surfaces for double sided tape. The lip came with screws, but I am not interested in drilling any holes into my car or into the lip cover.

I used exterior Scotch double sided tape from Home Depot, $5. Then applied it to the lip cover.

Please excuse the dirty car, the weather has been all over the place here lately..

    Oh and I bought these...

Seeing that picture of the wheels next to your car... They would have looked great! I wonder if somebody makes replicas with the correct bore size.

I know.. I wish it would have worked out the way I'd liked it to have, I'll look into replicas, perhaps there is a proper fit!

Did you buy shocks to go with those Pro Kit springs? Highly recommend it, or the stock ones will start to go relatively quickly. I had them on my last car (without matched shocks which is how I know). Pro Kit ride height looks great, even though it was a little low for me for practical reasons in daily use. I have a low tolerance for that.

I really like the look of your car! I have not bought shocks, I've read mixed reviews on upgrading shocks. I'm not going to be installing the springs for a few weeks, so I'll look into shocks to have them done all at once. Your fogs, are those aftermarket or did you use a film?

As for ride height, I'm hoping they settle in at 1.5"/1.3" or close to that. The sport lines were a larger drop that I said no to.

Thanks man! That was my old car, I have a B8.5 now. You'll want to do shocks with the springs or you'll be paying for labor twice to have them done later. @4ringnut do you have the part number for the Bilstein shocks you're running with those springs?

They'll settle in at that height, mine did. Those wheels are relatively high offset, they would have looked better with the lower offset ones I have now. As for the fogs, they were stock just wrapped with yellow clear vinyl.

Were the light output hindered at all by using the vinyl? I was thinking getting yellow bulbs. Did you run normal stock coloured bulbs along with the film or did you change the colour as well.

I was thinking either the Bilstein or Koni shocks.

No not at all, the bulbs were standard and the light output was great. Bilstein makes a set of shocks which pair perfectly with the Pro Kit.

Just finished installing the CR-15 bar. AMAZING mod for the money. I'm so impressed!

Also took off my dealer plate covers for some nice smoked covers.

    Quick question...

I have a non sport package B8, I just put the CR-15 bar on and I wanted to know what sway bars should I be looking into. The car hasn't be lowered yet, it'll stiffen things up nicely I'm sure, but I think I should focus more on a rear sway bar rather than the front. I have a front Ultra Racing strut bar that should arrive this week. The CR-15 bar and the UR bar should have the front end tight enough for my driving purposes.

What sizes are the stock bars...

    Stock NON Sport
    Stock SPORT
Stock S4 (assuming they will fit)

If I can get this info from somebody, it may help me better decide if I should go with an aftermarket solution or go with a OEM+ solution.

I got my Ultra Racing strut bar in today! I'll get to installing it Friday afternoon, I'm taking my car to the dealer to get the PCV valve looked at. I'm positive its leaking, there is a bunch of oil stains all around the valve.. Thank god for warranty!

Stock non-sport cars don't have sway bars; the sport package cars and S4 share the same ones. Sport/S4 bars are hollow, but they do make a big difference. Doing solid sways and end links is supposed to make the car corner flat as a pancake, though, per @blbroo.

And yes I'd agree that your PCV needs replacement.

Non-sport cars have sway bars, they are not as stiff as the sport/s4 sways though.

Moog end links for $100, FYI.

Thanks guys! I know the Non-Sport was equipped with sways front and rear, I've had my car up on a hoist a few times to inspect. Just didn't know the sizes. I think I'll look for a used S-Line/S4 with proper end links and bushings, call it a day.

Looking forward to Friday afternoon, once my car is back from the dealer.. I've got my Spulen turbo inlet hose from USP coming this week!

You have a baby on the way and you still live with your parents. Common man, you have no business driving an Audi if you still live at home and it isn't for some family care reason. JK

The sport sways will be a good improvement with moog end links and are a good balance to level the car out more and not be super stiff.

    Congrats on the baby, man!

    Very true! Finances before toys.

On a different topic, I've been trying to figure out if my car is equipped with Launch Control...

8 Speed Tip with out Drive Select.. I'm a bit scared to just try the launch method without getting a solid yes or no that my car has it before I break anything.. Would my VIN tell me if I have this option?

Pretty pissed right now! I received my Spulen turbo inlet hose from USP only to find out it doesn't fit, they had to have sent me the wrong hose.. This is my second time having issues getting this hose now, its getting frustrating. I called them up and emailed them, unfortunately for me they're closed. So I'll try again tomorrow.. Hope they make right of this..

    No where near fitting..

    Waxed the car, so pic...

^ you could probably mount that plate with bolts, washers, and nuts through the grille without that big gloss euro plate holder, no? Might be cleaner.

I picked this grille because of the euro plate holder, it's part of the grille. Not removable. I like the look I don't know why. Everybody around here runs the grilles without the plate holder and has the tow hook holder. I like to be a bit different I guess.

Fair enough, can't argue with a personal opinion. I actually don't recall ever seeing one of those grilles with a non-removable plate holder, and I've bought them for 2 cars. Lol.

DIY thread lists it from eBay lol. A front plate is law here and it's a $110 ticket that they fully enforce. So I'm trying to style within the limits of the law lol.

Are you installing the intake tube backwards? It looks like it should fit.

The air box and turbo inlets are different sizes to begin with. So it's only one way they go on. It doesn't fit. This is for a B7 FSI not the B8 TSI. I already figured out the issue. Need to exchange for the proper one or sell it locally and then rebuy.
