    Shearing sound

Sorry if I really don't know what I'm talking about. When I first start driving my B7A4 in the morning the engine would always making a shearing sound after switching gears. The RPM's also bounce up and down slightly. It would make the shearing noise everytime the RPM's dropped. The noise goes away after the engine heats up. Any ideas?

Is shearing comparable to a chirp from the serpentine belt roller?

Wouldn't describe it as a chirp, more like a rattle from a rattle snake. No noise on startup, only when driving. I mostly notice it putting the engine under pressure (mostly from going up hills). Then, the gear would change to 3rd/4th gear. After the gear changes the RPMs fall hard and then the rattle noise goes off followed by more bouncing RPMs.

My B7A4 is having a similar issue after having the clutch replaced. On another thread I posted a video with the sound. There Jason mentioned it could be the down pipe. The dealer said it sounded like an exhaust problem and said I would be looking at about $2500 to replace downpipe/resonator/mufflers. I ordered a new OE downpipe from ECS and the sound has changed a bit but is still there so it could still be exhaust related, but I dont feel like dumping another $1-2000 into the car right now.

Unfortunately it's not that, it sounds like metal rattling. It's a very unpleasant sound especially with the windows down.

I wouldn't be driving it at all. Have you scanned it?

hmm "chain rattle " tensioner failure ?

id get the car checked before a relatively cheap repair possibly turns into a very expensive one.

If you can't figure this out in the next 10 minutes, drive straight to someone who can and pay them to diagnose it. It could be much cheaper.

Thanks for all the input. A little more detail: If I'm going down a large hill in sport mode and it feels like the car's getting to the point where the gear should shift, the sound comes out, even if the engine is warm. The sound goes away once I shift up, relieving some pressure from the engine.

It also relieves pressure in the tranny too.

Last time, stop driving this thing and take it somewhere. Theiceman and I both see this heading in a bad direction.

I'm with these guys. Sounds serious. Stop driving it until its diagnosed whether by you or someone else.
