    Fuel-It Bluetooht Ethanol Analyzer

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Earlier this week I had my car setup to run EPL's stage 2 E85 tune which consisted of having a CTS pulley, Continental Flex Fuel sensor, Fuel-It Bluetooth analyzer, and Autotech HPFP upgrade installed. Tony requires that his E85 tune be run on at minimum of E70. As E85 blends can differ throughout the year and from station to station it is always a good idea to test what is exactly being pumped into your gas tank. In my search for options I chose to go with a solution that I was familiar with from my previous car. I chose to go with a Bluetooth option that connects to an app on my phone versus having a gauge installed specifically to read the analyzer or buying a P3 gauge and connecting it to the analyzer.

    http://www.fuel-it.biz/ethanol-analyzer-options/

Following pictures provided by andthen of his setup I chose to install the Flex Fuel sensor on the heat shield of my CTS intake. However, it was decided to move the sensor to the cold side of the heat shield. In the event there is a fuel leakage fuel could be directed away from the hot engine as much as possible. The return fuel line was then routed under the CTS intake/filter back to the OEM connection. About 8" to 10" inches of additional fuel hose was needed to complete the connection. Quick disconnect fittings were used to attach the fuel line to the Flex Fuel sensor.

The wiring for the Fuel-It Bluetooth Analyzer was routed following the lines to the ECU box but it was decided to run the power line to the power terminal located in the center of the cowl. A quick disconnect fitting was also used in the case analyzer need to be temporarily disconnected.

The app is available for iOS and Android. There is no need to pair your phone with the Bluetooth analyzer as the app does it for you each time it is launched. Once connected to the analyzer it shows ethanol content and fuel temperature if desired.

    Bought mine from eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/141439217568...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I searched for the sensor that Fuel-It sells on their website (Genuine GM Ethanol Sensor Part #13577394) since I was sure I was going to use the BT analyzer. I believe there is a newer version that is slightly smaller but I wanted to stay with the recommended sensor.

I installed my sensor today but still need to hook up the analyzer. To make this helpful for a DIY here are my thoughts (not to hijack post, just adding). I have never messed with fuel systems so I was nervous. Honestly though it was pretty easy. Of course try to get all install parts prior to starting. Thanks to the OP too.

    1. Unplugged fuel pump fuse. (Drivers side fuse box, second column over and third one down I think. It was 25amp.) 2. Turned on car. It ran for about 20-30 sec then died.
    3. Unplugged battery
    4. Beer
    5. Unplugged fuel line on left middle portion of engine where it joins the other hose to the HPFP. (I ended up slowly cutting it because it was on there tight and didn't want to damage the plastic it was connected to). Held rags and cup under it while I pulled it slowly apart. It dripped a few tablespoons worth of gas.
    6. Remove intake and heat shield
    7. This is the part that took the longest...trying to fab where the sensor would fit. Like the OP I mounted it to the heat shield on the intake side, but put mine in a diagonal position. Had to get mounting hardware for sensor at ACE.
    8. Installed quick connect the op mentions above to now half-disconnected fuel line. Recommend fuel-type hose clamps.
    9. Clipped in the quick connect to sensor.
    8. Fyi: Originally bought some fuel line from Amazon but it was a hair too big on inner diameter. I ended up going to auto parts store with a piece of the OEM line I cut off. They matched it. I think I got like 2-3ft.
    9. Put quick connect on new hose from auto parts store. This sucks. Dip the hose in extra fuel and it slipps on a little better, but you have to muscle it down. Then connect it to the sensor.
    10. Install heat shield back on car
    11. Install intake
    12. Run the new line to the connector on the engine where you originally disconnected the fuel line. Connect with fuel line clamp. (Make sure no kinks or areas that my rub.)
    13. I ended up getting some black wire conduit in the electrical section of the auto store and some random rubber bushings. Wrapped the conduit around the fuel line to protect it and put bushings around areas where I mounted (ie. Zip tied lol) the line to the heat shield. I had had issues with the intake rubbing on things before so I also tried to secure it and put bushings around other hoses for protection.
    14. Put in fuse
    15. Plug in battery.
    16. Start car and check for leaks while smoking a cigar, admiring your work
    17. (Start instructions for installing ECA device)

@Hofahome - Glad my post was helpful and nice work. Just a heads up a few guys with B8.5's with this setup mounted the sensor rwhere the OEM fuel line disconnects right in front of the MAP sensor. The bracket there is a good spot to mount the sensor and doesn't require any additional fuel line. Below is a pic of Grumpy-S4's setup.

I still am a fan of your setup because it moves the sensor away from the hot engine and is in a much better spot if there happened to be a fuel leak.

Ya it would have been way easier (and look cleaner) but I thought your idea was safer.
Here is a proof of concept photo showing my ECA setup. Not sure if I will put it in the glovebox or in place of the ashtray, which it fits surprisingly well in.

Nice work Hofahome. I vote ashtray. Easily concealable and accessible when you need it.

Quick question... when you fill up again let me know how long it takes for your ethanol content to update. Mine takes a few minutes of driving before it updates to the correct percentage.

Thinking about it eventually! Just sold my CW Pro though for more mod money ;) and I transferred over my regular JHM LW Crank Pulley, so the thought of spending money on the Overdrive right now doesn't sit well. We'll be in touch though when ready ;)

The sensor is rated to withstand heat... Fuel leak? In any case the oem setup would leak as well... Doubt that will ever be an issue. I wanted the oem look and hence left it where I did

Yes... First pump from auto-tech was not good. It was visibly different from the second one I got WEIRD!!!

Flashed stage 2 E85 and running good so far. Have to talk to Tony as logs indicate there is still more power left (given my upgraded cooling).

I got this Bluetooth analyzer installed today. But when I run the app, it says I'm on E100, when I'm still on pump gas. Any idea what might be causing that?

Sounds like it might be getting a bad signal from the flex fuel sensor. Where did purchase your flex fuel sensor from?

Also contact Steve @Fuel-It he might have a better idea what is going on.

Yes it is compatible. Make sure you buy the one that does Bluetooth and 0-5 volt analog signal. You won't use the analog signal wire, but its good to have for later if you want to hook it up to something like a P3 gauge.
The fittings are up to you if you want to spend the extra money. I used these from AutoZone: https://www.autozone.com/fuel-system...questid=601911
Also keep in mind that you will need to purchase the Fuel-It app for your phone. I think it's $4.99.

is there a budget setup similar to this?? i mean i know you can get the sensor as low as $30 but what about the other stuff does fuel it only sell the whole kit with sensor ? Or is there a way to make your own kit for cheaper?

Looks like they sell just the bluetooth analyzer for $199, then a $30 sensor and you're in business. I think this is the route I'm going to go.

    Check out this thread: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ntent-Analyzer
If you are technically inclined this is probably the cheapest option. Next cheapest is going to be what kelseysautobody mentioned above. There is another option that works with a P3 gauge but the P3 gauge itself is pretty expensive.

I've had this fuel-it ethenol analyzer for about 2 years now and it works great. I think it was $150 when I purchased and I found the GM sensor on amazon for a better price. I secured mine with some parts from the hardware store to make brackets to secure the fuel line. Thats all the parts I needed to install it.

Just got my Fuel-It installed last night. Very straight forward install. I connected the power lead to the vacant spot on the positive jump start panel and the negative to one of the nuts for the false fire wall under the cowl. Tucked the wiring under my intake, used some black plastic conduit, and routed it through the rubber boot with the wiring harness. Didn’t have to cut any fuel line, just removed the quick connectors and got some slightly larger clamps.

Edit: I also cut off the bullet connector that came on the positive lead and swapped it with a ring terminal. Did not want to use the provided scotch lock.
