    Disconnect AC

I am pulling motor, trans, subframe of a 2003 Alload.
Is there a practical way to 'save' the AC charge (not having to disconnect/bleed and potential ruin the AC system)?
I want the entire front of the car (radiator support) off the car.
I am not sure if I can 'swing' the AC condenser just out of the way (after unbolting from radiator)?
But then still have to also remove the AC compressor (on driver side), and lines going to/from the compressor?

If disconnecting (would prefer), is there a way to 'protect' the "drier" and other components?
How long can a system be open and exposed to humidity before it is damaged and needs to be replace (drier, other components?)?

This is a converted (to 6 spd manual, A6 gearing) auto, so I do not have to deal with tranny coolant lines.
Removed the condenser from the radiator support and bent back to side of the car, clearing the front nicely.
Rad support now off the car.

Just remove the AC compressor from the engine and use a coat-hanger to hang it way off to the side like under the headlight/fender area. The hoses are flexible enough to get it out of the way, just don't kink them obviously.

In this case, I am doing a garage (jack stand) engine/tranny/subframe removal. Need to roll out the assembly.
Had to move the AC compressor and pipes over to passenger side (180 degree twist of the hoses).

Still would like to know what can be done to 'seal' the critical components of the AC system (drier in particular) to be able to open the system but prevent too much moisture to get inside.
When they ship new driers (accumulators), they are not 'super sealed', just a plastic pipe plug IIRC.

Would make life much easier (just take off the 3 or so couplings and be done with).

You don't really need to seal it hermetically. Remember that the system is under quite a pressure due to gas charge. Once you open it, the gas will escape but it is not like the air will replace it or anything like that. So long you prevent some kind of open circulation situation with silicone plugs for example, the moisture won't be freely migrating into the system. And if you plan to have it disconnected for long time, then you'll have to use vacuum pump anyway and that will force the water to boil out during the evacuation process...
