    AWE switchback + catless downpipe

Does anyone else have this combination, I have had my AWE exhaust on since I got the car less fall and it had a deep sound but I wanted it a bit louder. Yesterday I installed the USP catless downpipe and now the exhaust note is completely different, it is louder of course but its not a deep sound anymore its really raspy, to raspy for my liking honestly.

and of course even with an o2 extender I already hit a damn CEL, I am using the JB1 so now I need to find a solution to that crap :( .... I am not installing a flash so I have to find a hardware solution... maybe add another o2 extender to the existing one :)

anyone else have this raspiness problem? i guess I have to install a cat or a resonator now :( fawk

A resonator would help with the raspy sounds. A cat will help with the CEL.

This is why I never recommend catless downpipes. A cat and resonator will get you back to the tone you were at before. Hopefully you get it situated, if you need my help, let me know!

Not the awe system but we run a catted downpipe with the Remus system

Just figured I would share a catted downpipe setup for comparison

I don't get why so many people go cat-less. Is it a cost concern?

I dont know how much difference in power there is cat vs no cat but I definitely feel a substantial increase in power with the catless downpipe installed. Maybe I will install a resonator first I don't really want to swap out the downpipe again to put in a cat since I just paid for that yesterday lol.

the cat isn't holding power back. I have spoken with a tuner before and he is not seeing substantial gains by removing the cat. The only benefit I can see is being able to run leaded race fuel. but I don't care about that at all. I personally only see downsides to running cat-less.

I run catless because it's cheaper and I don't have to worry about a non-OEM cat falling apart. Of course I am also willing to run the proper tuning for it so I don't get to deal with random CELs.

I installed catted DP along with Vibrant O2 spacer and JB1, but keep getting CEL. Has anyone found a spacer that completely eliminates CEL with this setup?

I have usp catted dp and awe touring exhaust on my a3 and love the sound along with no cel problems. Makes the pops and gurgling like the rs3 which always puts a smile on my face.

I had all of the above problems and it's why I went back to the OEM downpipe combined with the AWE Track catback. The car was loud AF and sounded badass, but I couldn't deal with it day in and day out.

Part of the raspy-ness, in my opinion, is that the exhaust manifold is integrated into the head of the motor.

Which way does your 90* bend go, i.e. Is it in line going with the flow of exhaust or inline going against the flow of exhaust?

Mine went against the flow, so back towards the hood of the car if I'm not mistaken.

I have made my own in the past by purchasing a spark plug non-fouler and screwing the O2 sensor into that. They are like $4 at an auto parts store, maybe try adding 1 or 2 of those to it. Help cut the flow down even more.

i am not sure I have not looked at it, I may add an additional one to it like you said and see what happens, the car runs fine so I am not to concerned about it :)

The only thing the secondary one does is tell you if your cat is working. If it is going with the flow of exhaust turn it around to go against it. That might help out.
