Loud noise when accelerate the 2002 1.8t

Hi, my daily drive is a 3.0 6sp and last time I had 1.8t was a 05'Passat that sold long time ago. I don't recalled loud noise from the engine/exhaust when rev the Passat.....

I was test driving a clean-on-the-paper 2002 1.8T quattro, automatic last night. My friend is desperately wanna buy it. The car is one owner, 67 carfax records (initially lease for 3 years, then the previous owner bought it off the lease, so it is technically one owner), currently has 72k miles!

Odd enough, despite the car look clean, and weird color (British racing green), when driving, it is loud (in a bad way), at idle i can't detect the exhaust leak or anything like that. Any thought?, Flex pipe?, Mid muffler leak? ... I'm asking as we are waiting the seller to let us take the car to check.

Why 1.8t automatic is so slow? What else do I need to look for before buying it?

    Appreciate any input/help/thought

Does it sound like an exhaust leak? I recently fixed one that was between the two exhaust pipes where they split from each other. The holes were pretty big by the time I got to it, but you still couldn't see them. I felt the exhaust puffing out of it.

It turns out that the exhaust is cracked, I'm trying to get more info on where exactly it is cracked, but can't seem to get a good info from the service rep at my mechanic shop.
