    Wavy Door Blades Tip

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
After seeing a few RS4's with the dreaded issue, I decided to check mine out only to realize that one of the two screws to my door blades had fallen out. Worse yet, all the screws to my door blades on each door were loose. I think it is a common problem for the driver's back screw (one furthest from the hinge) to fall out. My theory is, besides a shitty design, that over time, the screws become loose allowing for water to get behind the door blade and rust out, separating from the painted plastic.

So I went to Home Depot to find a screw that would work. I knew Audi would charge more than the cost of gold per weight for the little tiny screw. So I was fortunate and found screws that would fit

    Screws: M4 x 6mm
    Spacers: M4

The total cost was just a tad over $1 for 3 screws and 4 washers. It's super easy to replace and/or tightened the OEM ones. I highly recommend you guys check yours. To make the front screw (one closest to the hinge) more accessible, open the door as wide as possible and use a short Philips-head screwdriver.

Go with stainless screws as well to prevent rusting.

Just to be clear -- this isn't really a remedy for door blades that are already wavy, right? Just preventative?

correct, just a tip, not a remedy. Might help prolong the door blades. Mine just started getting wavy in the past 8 months and somehow all the screws were loose and one missing. I tried to search for the screw but couldn't find anthing. So that's why I made this thread.

The screws are zinc coated and resist rust for a long time (the doorblade will rust out well before the screw does).

    Thank you for the tip!
Mine's started to separate a little bit on both front doors.
I went to Ace Hardware store and both some vise-clamps.
I'm just going to glue those suckers in place with epoxy and clamp it down until is fully cured...

Funny today I just swapped out all 4 door blades on my B6 Avant. The 2 front door ones split and had rust in them but the screws were fully intact. I paid $100 bucks for some B6 S-line ones and paid a shop $100 to paint them brilliant black. Im surprised the RS4 ones screws came loose. Good fix though.

When you pull them off see if its rust in the middle of the door blade. The ones on my B6 had rust in the middle thats why they got "wavy"

Mine just hard a little rust on the edges, but that's it. They are pretty wavy though. At $200 a pop unpainted, $1,000+ fix for the RS4!

That's exactly how mine look. It's actually a bit worse than yours.
I'm just going the epoxy route to see how that works, and hopefully it can keep moisture out.
