    Question High flow cat options?

    Hey guys, other than the $330 034 High Flow Cat, are there any other better or cheaper options for our cars? I will also be needing new installation hardware of course.

    Will it bolt directly onto an otherwise stock exhaust system? What about an O2 sensor, 100% required or I will get a code?

    I ask because I am currently APR Stage 1 and I would like to go to Stage 2....Looks like this is the only hardware requirement so why not

    034MOTORSPORT HIGH FLOW CATALYTIC CONVERTER (A4 B7 2.0T)


    This 034Motorsport high-flow catalytic converter (HFC) is designed to replace the restrictive OE catalytic converter, and allow for quicker spool while increasing horsepower and torque throughout the powerband. This HFC fits:

    • 2005.5-2008 Audi A4 B7 2.0T (FWD & quattro)
    • 2005.5-2009 Audi A4 B7 2.0T Cabriolet (FWD & quattro)
    • Direct bolt-in for OEM cat-back exhaust, or aftermarket cat-back exhaust systems designed to fit with the OEM catalytic converter.

    034Motorsport dyno showed gains of over 27WTQ and 33WHP on stock turbo tunes.
    • Full 304 stainless steel tubing construction
    • 250-cell stainless steel matrix cat
    • TIG welded and backpurged
    • CNC machined flanges to prevent warping and expansion
    • Factory correct oxygen sensor and exhaust hanger placement
    • Full 3" tubing is used throughout
    • Dyno proven horsepower and torque gains
    • All of the necessary installation gaskets and hardware are included!
    • Note: Our 034Motorsport Oxygen Sensor Spacer is sold separately (see related products), and is recommended to eliminate the MIL or CEL if you do not have Stage 2 software that defeats the MIL or CEL when removing the stock catalytic converter.

    CTS turbo, low shipping prices, no customs. Canadian shop, but US prices.

    This is what I have, no issue.

    I run it for 1-2000 km on stock tune, no O2 code (no O2 spacer).

    Went stage 2 unitronic ( come with the after cat O2 sensor disabled)

    You can also use the spacer, it might work, this is not 100% reliable. Most montreal vw shop carry the spacer. But you can buy one on CTS, 90° angle one.
    If O2 is dasable on APR stg2, do not buy the spacer.

    - yes bolt on.
    - yes come with new studs (longer), new nuts (cooper), new seals.

    Stage 2 require : hfc, downpipe, diverter valve.

    HFC definitely reduces spool time and should provide a noticeable improvement over stock cat that should be apparent in data logs.

    this is an other solution, they cut the OEM cat out and weld a high flow one.

    OP can go to federal muffler, this shop get the lowest price in the city , period.


    According to my experience, getting done in the same time the HFC+intake+DV+complete exhast ; I feel more improvement than the tune stage 2 itself.

    I must say, after all this, the improvement is there, but the car still really slow. I was expecting something more. My 1996 5pds maxima v6 n/a still faster.

    Going to go to my custom shop today and get a quote for DP + HFC and see if it's cheaper to buy from JHM/USP or have them use what they've got.

    My custom turbo back on my B5 was $1100. My exhaust on the B7 is already at $700 I believe due to the quad tip being the main reason.

    Here's a quick compare. Note the cell flow rate used for each and pricing of it. Also please note, that the pricing is just what is posted on their sites currently. You should go and check the prices out yourself. I can see why JHM is CEL bulletproof. They use a denser cat. I believe stock cat is at 400, but don't quote me on that.

    so CEL could also be eliminated by the J bung and (and whatever spacers others use) along with a common stage 2 tune that eliminates the CEL.

    like I said previously, this will not work for everybody.

    In my case, no spacers with CTS hfc, and I run it for few Km before stage 2, and I didn't had any code.

    I know some people with the spacer, and they got codes.

    Regular spacers don't work too well.

    Performance gain from any mod will be minimal if anything until you tune.
    You need to "teach" (tune) the computer (ECU) that the engine can breathe better

    You should definitely feel power gains with a HFC or test pipe.

    If I was to get a JHM test pipe would it throw a code? Or could I have a shop make it so it wouldn't? It's just that the test pipe is so much cheaper, I'd be worried about how it would sound though as well compared to a HFC

    The price difference comes from the cost of the cat material. Those cats are not cheap.

    No, we have a J-bung to prevent the CEL for being catless.

    Thought so, thanks.

    Doesn't seem like a lot of people like the sound a test pipe though.

    imho even with a cat, the 2.0 sound is far from impressive.
    Well, not much 4cyl will be impressive, but some are. boxer and motorbike engine, specially the kawa 1200or 1400.
