When you put this on do you need to retune the motor at all for optimum performance? Do these cause any codes or warnings if you do not?

Assuming that you have a 3.0t - A tune is not necessary. The intake will not cause any codes or warnings.

If you're looking into performance upgrades, I would absolutely recommend a tune and supercharger pulley (this is known as Stage 2). With this, the intake will be able to provide its maximum benefit.
