External oil cooler, replace stock or no problems???

I think my oil is running hot.
First off my car (2001 1.8t Quattro) was out of commission for quite a while till I could get all the parts to do all the suspension so it's been a long time since it had a good highway run which happened a few days ago. My question is I think my oil is running hotter than it should be.

At 125kmph (77mph) my oil is steady 110c (230f) and when I slow to 80kmph (50mph) it drops to 103c (217f) and will stay steady there unless I go back up to highway speeds.

    Is that too high?
I run total Quartz 5w40 changed every 8000km (5000miles). And currently have 266,000km (165,000 miles) on the motor.

I recently had to replace the cam cover gasket and saw ZERO sludge built up up there.

I'm debating on a front mount oil cooler, would that help? If so could someone point me to a write up please?

Also the coolant never sways from 90-92c (194-197f).

110 degrees C at speeds below 100mph is pretty high, I would not be comfortable with that.

I would say your coolant will be higher than the indicated 90 degrees C. The 1.8T runs a water-cooled oil cooler (more of a heat exchanger than anything else) so I wouldn't expect a 20 degree C temperature difference between the oil and coolant. I would be looking at your coolant circuit first, starting with logging temps with VCDS or similar.

An external air-cooled oil cooler will keep oil temps lower, but I would establish why it's as high as it is first, and fix the problem, if there's one. A moderately-tuned 1.8T should still be able to maintain lower oil temps at speeds below 100mph.

The coolant was flushed a year before it was parked and it was parked for about a year. Do you think it could be caused by sitting for so long? I would have thought that if there was a sludge issue you would see it with cam cover off and it looked really good under there. It's been a while since I had my computer hooked up but last time the coolant never budged from 93 degrees. Coolants been like that since I replaced the t-stat which failed open in the middle of winter with 440 km left till I got home. I'll definately go for a trip and log both sets of numbers with it warmed and post.

Im curios what temps should be. Im at 210 F for oil temps and 90C for water doing roughly 80mph. My gauge cluster needles are not set correctly so i always thought i was overheating but vcds proved my needles were off 1 tick to the right. I replaced the center lcd and never reset the needles just did it by eye. My car is apr stage 1 and everything is fine but im thinking of doing an extra oil cooler from a saab

Seems a tad high but nothing to worry about.

Seems a little high, I remember when I had stg2 on the k03 summer temps and highway speed gave me little higher than normal (215F = normal) I did not worry about it. k03 is a hot little turbo and the 1.8t at 70mph is always ready for boost Intake and exhaust temp could rise I guess. I know now that I run the larger turbo oil chills at like 205F all day unless i'm doing pull after pull. still running stock oil cooler
