Didn't see this coming until it lost all air in one of them. They are destroyed.

Usually things like this happen if an alignment was never made after getting new wheels, tires, suspension, or any combo of these things. Do you know if you asked the shop to do an alignment or if they offered when you got new tires/suspension?

This may be a really dumb question, but do you really need to do an alignment when changing wheels and tires? I know it's necessary for suspension bits.

Do you need to check it - No

Is it worth checking - Yes

You've just invested in a new set of tires, may as well spend the extra $50 to make sure they aren't going to develop unusual wear.

Ok, so I got a fresh alignment two weeks ago with my 18x8.5 wheels. I'm now about to put my 19x9 summer wheels on. Really don't want to pay another $100 for an alignment but I suppose I will if I have to. Tires have the same rolling diameter although my summer tires are wider.

If you got the alignment done 2 weeks ago then there's absolutely no reason to do it again just because you've swapped wheels. If it was a year ago you had the alignment checked then yes it would be worth checking.

It's been lowered and the tow-in combined with camber did it. Identical to two of my previous cars, and those were both "apparently" checked for alignment.

Looking at your before and after numbers on the alignment sheet, you are still running -2.1' of camber, you will destroy the new set of tires unless you correct this.
Those camber angles are great for a track car but completely pointless for a road car. Not only will it wear the tires prematurely but under normal driving you have reduced the contact patch of the tires on the wheels that are supposed to be steering the car!
I'd get the shop to adjust the camber back to something a little closer to stock.

The camber is adjusted as far they can. Camber on its own doesn't do this much damage AFAIK. Anyway, I've done that same damage exactly.

I'm running -2 on both fronts right now and haven't seen much issues.

Though, after reading this I'm going to go double check. Toe in my opinion kills more of your tyres than camber. Front camber can't be fixed unless you get upgraded control arms on our cars. (I'm in a '13 S5 with KW V3's w. stock control arms, can't adjust camber in front). But Toe should be set properly. Ask the shop to make sure they do that.

Rear's can have camber and toe fixed with stock suspension. I'll find my alignment papers in a second and try to show you guys.

The OP's pictures look to have adjustable upper arms and they look to be adjusted fully in so giving maximum negative camber, the caster angle is also 2 degrees between left and right which isn't a good place to be at all, that cant be a nice handling car!

I would strongly suggest you take the car to a shop who know how to set up geometry correctly and avoid the shop responsible for the current settings!

Toe-in combined with the neg camber is what did this. The toe-in does more damage though. But you also don't need -2 camber on a street car. Looks like the new alignment has resolved the toe in issue so it should not be as bad going forward.

I 2nd this! Spending so much on wheels and tires and then having to get another set of new tires is more expensive than either checking an alignment or doing an alignment. Spend $100 to save over $800 in the long run (depending on tire).
