    Quick Oil Filter Question

Went to change the oil and filter on my girlfriend's 2.0t. Unscrewed the filter (it was fram from a quick lube shop) went to grab the new filter and the threads were different so I immediately assumed I got the wrong filter and put the old one back on.

Turns out I had the correct filter

It looks like when I loosened the fram filter, the threads and plastic seal stayed into the filter housing- and the filter with a smaller thread unscrewed from the end. Has anyone run into this before? I've changed a thousand oil filters and can't remember anything like this.

If I had access to the car I would just look and figure it out, but I only see the car every few weeks or so

Yes I have once out of 4 oil changes. Simply use channel lock pliers or the like to get the rest of it off. Alarmed me too when it happened but you don't need that part anyway. Happened to my Mann filter so it probably happens to all of them some time. Why are you using Fram anyway?

I've had the nipple stay in the block once in 5 years. It came out easily. I called my dealer SA and they see this occasionally also. By the time I got back to the car and it had cooled a bit more, the nipple spun out by hand. Just grab it with pliers.

Thanks! I don't use fram, she brought the car to a quick lube place who used it. It's been probably 15k since the last oil change so that's probably why the nipple is stuck in there. Appreciate the quick responses!

Yeah same thing happened to me on my last oil change, thought I got the wrong one too but then took a second look at what was going on.
