2011 A4 B8 - Conversion to Facelift RECODING HELP! DESPERATE

Hello to everyone in the forums, and i will start by saying thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to try and help me out.

I recently graduated and wanted to treat myself hence i bought a 2011 Audi A4 (B8) 2.0 TFSI S Line Quattro Black Edition. It is a CATEGORY C insurance wright off, however the engine and transmission is in perfect working order. The car had been fitted with the face lift during repair im assuming. While buying the trader assured me that the issues that were present is to do with coding and they are waiting on the machine so they can correct it. Hence i took a leap of faith and bought the car (mistake number 1) under the valid assumption that they would sort the issues out for me at a later date. I'm sure you can see where this is going.

A few days of driving and the controls for the AC/Heating, Heated Seats, stops working (only front and rear defroster and AC comes ON and OFF). A few more miles and after a car wash the Electronic Parking Brake stopped working (paking brake malfunction warning). The light control switch doesn't correspond to the actual lights, for example in the 'off (0)' position the front DRL are on, In the 'DRL' position the front DRL are off and rear DRL are on. On full beams only the headlamps come on and no DRL.

Ive managed to get a friend to run a diagnostic and get the full list of codes and fault codes. Which i have attached below. I will attach pictures to better explain exactly whats going on. If there is any information that is needed i am happy to do all i can to get it. I would really appreciate any help any of you can offer.

Also the car had already been fitted with the face lift when i purchased hence i dont know what parts where used, what was changed or added.

PLEASE CAN I JUST SAY THAT I AM COMPLETELY NEW TO ANY OF THIS SO PLEASE WOULD YOU BE KIND ENOUGH TO EXPLAIN CLEARLY FOR ME WHAT YOU NEED FROM ME OR WHAT I NEED TO DO.

You have component protection active in several modules. This is probably from the shop changing them during repair, and it requires a dealer visit to remove CP. Once that's removed, functionality should be restored.

As for the other codes, have your friend clear them and see which ones come back. Those that do could be from faulty parts or wiring.

Also i am actually booked in for a Major Service at Audi tomorrow morning so i'm wondering will they remove the 'component protection' or will they charge separately for that.

I'm pretty sure they will charge extra for that, and you need to talk to them before hand to let them know this needs to be done. Before CP is removed you will have limited or no functionality with that particular control module.

I've dropped the car off and did mention the fault codes to the Audi representative and also gave a printed copy of the VCDS scan. She said she would try and see what she could do. Fingers crossed, ill do another scan tonight when i have the car and see if anything has changed and post the results.

Well if this car was bought from the wreckers before you got it then who knows what has happened to all of those controllers post crash.

I would assume that a facelift car doesn't have that many sensors needing coding after a fender and radiator brace are added. There is seriously something else going on.

Coding the parts that were replaced would be a start and the dealer could do this. But you need to have a talk with the bloke you bought this car from immediately.

Saying everything is top notch and then having errors and codes thrown like this is grounds to take the car back, and call the police and see what can be done.

So, you had major service at Audi - dealer did what, no words about why cp is still active and dealer comments etc...something is missing in this story!
Regarding history, dealer should be able to find out, which modules are not your factory ones anymore, ac sensor G395 has 3 wires ( http://www.audi-portal.com/pic/all/A87-10424.jpg ) , they are different colors in FL and preFL, if your front was crashed or something, there might be now wrong wiring etc- dealer could not even check is ac system full and sensors are working? Run basic setting for HVac again.

I inquired about the component protection, Audi said its to prevent the component from being stolen. The original AC/Heating control module was flickering on/off constantly so i had it replaced and i'm assuming the component protection may be for the new part, however Audi want £60 to remove that and they don't even know if that will solve the problem. The Audi (stockport) i visited weren't very helpful they gave me a printout of the problems, and the total for the work they are suggesting comes to £6260. They wanted £157.20 to only DIAGNOSE what was wrong with the lights, which was a matter of coding which i have solved.

There is nothing you can do, you have to remove CP at audi service anyway - without removing cp you cant get it fully working(it was written already at the beginning of the thread), so pay to the Audi 60 pounds - you have to, some people have paid more then 100!

Just post your thread in uk forum aswell, there are quys who know the area and plenty places with good retrofit experinece, who can help you out.

I dont see there is anything major wrong with your scan anyway, some people had same errors with parking brake, switch broken or module(150-200euro) etc...

So dont panic, remove cp first and scan willbe much cleaner.

Can you post this printout for 6260 pounds?

I dont know, could be issue with your parking brake due wrong sensors( cant belive) - which were mentioned in printout. But any normal garage with vag equipment should find correct solution quickly for this problem (wiring, switch, module etc).

Your car is running fine i quess and price was low?

So back to audi service, let them remove cp...and after that up to you, yourself start changing sensors, switch etc or find somebody with experience...

Are your headlights sorted?

What you describe in your original post related to them makes sense to me. The DRLs are supposed to be on at full brightness when the light switch is set to "0" (you can turn them off in car settings menu). There isn't a "DRL" position on the B8 light switch - I think you might be confusing this with the parking light position. When that is selected, the DRLs assume a dimmed brightness and the rear running lights illuminate. When the headlights are switched on, the DRLs remain in the dimmed state.
The dimmed DRL brightness level is configurable via an adaptation in the 09 module. On the B8, this adaptation was set to around 8 (8%) from the factory if I recall correctly. On the B8.5, this adaption was set much higher (I don't recall the exact number). I can see a low number stored in this adaptation channel failing to illuminate the DRLs on facelift lights.

So if you haven't changed that adaptation value from the low stock B8 value, that may be the explanation to why your DRLs appear to be off with the light switch is set to the parking lights and headlights positions.

Yes NPuter, that was partly my confusion in not knowing what position represented which lights. The DRL adaptation is 26% or 28% which dims the DRLs with headlamps on. But yes the headlights are all sorted.

The picture below shows the AC/Heating console. Only the front and rear defrosters work, at times when first turning on the car the console comes on for like 2 seconds then goes off again. Could that be due to the component protection?

Yes, that is due to the CP. Get it removed before banging your head on the wall any longer. There's no point in trying to figure this out before CP is gone.

Hi again forumers. I have got the component protection removed, that sorted the AC/Heating console out. I replaced the EPB switch which sorted the parking brake issue out. The final thing i need to sort is the AC/Pressure sensor error. Can anyone tell me how where would i find this sensor and how to replace it and also how to recharge the AC, what pressure? how much R134A do i need to put it. Anything will be helpful.

Thank you for all the help so far, I've managed to sort many of the issues without remortgaging.

Not sure about the pressure sensor but the correct amount of R134 should be written on a sticker in the engine bay, probably on the bumper support unless it was changed during the accident repair.
