The 2010 S5 comes with a brake pad wear indicator right?

I bought my S5 last August, put about 7-8k miles on it thus far. It came already with a set of the nice 2 piece ECS tuning slotted and drilled rotors front and rear, which are about $1,000 for a full set. I just want to make sure i am on top of or have a idea when the pads have 25% left being i have no clue how old they are. I would hate to ruin the rotors on the car, being they came free along with a ECS tuning flush spacer kit. Which saved me a nice chunk of change. Does it just pop up via the MMI or the dash? Can it be checked? I swore i searched a thread and there is one, not 100% sure about the 2010 B8 S5.

Yes the 2010 S5 has them. However, if you have aftermarket rotors than chances are you may also have aftermarket pads. Some aftermarket pads do not come with wear sensors so the previous owner may have disabled them. ECS sells a kit that bypasses the sensor so that you don't get the warning message in your DIS.

Only way to know for sure is to remove your driver side wheel and inspect the caliper. You should see the sensor cable connected to the back of the outer brake pad. While you're in there, just look at the pads, it's easy to gauge the thickness.

The sensor is only on the driver side front pad so if there is nothing connected to your brake pads on that side than your sensor has been bypassed.

Ok thanks, that was my plan when I got around to it. I was just wondering if we had the wear indicator. Thanks for the heads up on sometimes it's bypassed. Good to know.

Any recommendations on which pads with the sensor I should go with to pair with the two piece ECS rotors I have on there now? Don't need anything super fancy as I don't track the car.

Hawk or Akebono are the popular choices. Either would be fine for you. Just read up on each and find one that suits your preference for dust and performance.

Not sure I understand. A pic of the sensor cable or the warning light that shows in the cabin? The latter will be in your owners manual.
